My parents used to take themselves, 5 children, a frame tent and all the various other bits and bobs in a Citroen Ami 6 (anyone remember them?) with a tiny home-made trailer. We were each given a pillow case and told we could take whatever we could fit in it. This included our clothes. We did this until we were in our mid to late teens and I still don't know how 5 of us fitted in the back seat. Obviously before the days of rear seatbelts and child seats.
