Just returned from a great weekend camping in Derbyshire.  We bought a Blue Cat Heater while we were there, and tried it out on the Saturday evening. We wondered if we were doing something wrong as it seemed to give off a very limited amount of heat.  It has two settings and we tried both to no avail. We had to put our hands within 2 inches of the heater to feel any benefit. We had it on for approximately 3 hours inside our tent, and it didn't seem to take the chill out of the air. Any advice would be welcomed before we take it back.

Hi Snaz. I've considered buying a Blue Cat, but never taken the plunge, so I can't advise you. However, I've bumped this topic back up to the top for you, so hopefully someone who can help will answer your query later today

Thanks Jean.  I would advise you to look for a different heater as £35 is a lot to pay for something that gives off very little heat.

I've just purchased a blue cat too so will watch with interest.  Not tested it yet but I would think thay you have a faulty one Snaz as the reviews on here are generally good.  Take it back for a replacement.

On a separate safety point, how safe is it to use inside a tent as the insturctions say for outdoor use only, Technically I am outdoors ........but also inside (a tent)!!!?????? if you get what I mean.  Don't want to tourch the tent or halm the kids but would like to warn the place up.  Any advice on where to place it or what to place it on appreciated.

Hope this gets some response. Thanks in advance.

We had one this year in France - there were some very cold nights, it took the chill out of the air very quickly. Although the tent was never stuffy or too hot, you could definitely notice the difference. We mostly turned it on to high for about 10 mins then put it back to the lowest setting - there was no need for any higher. We got about 4 to 5 hours usage out of the 270+ cartridge.

One thing I would say though is to watch out for the 2 arms that swing down so you can set the heater at an angle. They didn't hold on ours and the heater fell down in slow mo towards the table. I instinctively grabbed it and got a pretty bad inch long burn across the top of my thumb for the trouble. We just left it sitting upright after that.

Interesting that you used the 270+ cartridge.  This one states that it's only for the 470+ ones.  Not sure if it's a new/different model as it appears for the picture to rest on the arms and base of the cartridge.

Just a thought as that might be why yours didn't hold?

We couldn't get 470s in the first supermarket, only 270s. I wouldn't think that was the problem as the only difference between a 270 and a 470 is size, and the issue seemed to be the legs not being strong enough to stop itself from sliding down. But you never know - we have a 470 now so it's certainly worth a try.
