Hi everyone. Well its taken me 3 weeks to get a week off from work arranging cover and everything. Ive been buying kit and planning Im so excited like a big kid as its my first time camping and im off to middlewood farm at Robin hoods bay for a week.

The thing is Ive seen the forcast this weekend and metcheck says heavy rain and winds up to 24mph!!!   What would you do? im so giddy about going and want to set off saturday morning and stay till the following saturday. I am however consious of the poor people that lost their tents in the recent bank holiday bad weather. The heavy rain dosnt bother me but the wind may be a problem, I really cant afford to lose my tent.  I know no on can predict the weather should i hang on and go monday or chance it?

Had a look at the wind forecast here . It does look quite rough for Sunday night early Monday morning. If it is your first camping trip it may be worth waiting until Monday better being safe than sorry and you don't want your first trip to be a negative experience, it is quite scary being in a tent when its really windy.

I notice you have a Vango Venture, try and pitch it with the door facing the wind, if the wind hits the dome, side on it can flatten the dome and put extra strain on the poles. Also get some Delta pegs and I would consider these an essential bit of camping kit especially in wind.

Middlewood Farm is a lovely site, we have been a few times now and had a great time every time - although we have been blessed with good weather every time .

What ever you decide have a great first time!

24mph isn't that bad. The weekend when folk were losing their tents the windspeed was hitting 60mph. How exposed is the campsite? If it's a nice shelterer inland one I would just go, but on a cliff edge I'd be more cautious.

Remember to take extra pegs, guylines and pitch with an eye for shelter.

I too was supposed to be camping this weekend, but after the last BH am not risking it.

We had a Vango Idaho 600 (note past tense!!!) - 1st time of using it & it got completely flattened, both dome poles shattered & tent ripped away from SIG   - not a pleasant experience de-camping in wind, rain & a muddy campsite!

Gonna try again in 2 weeks - fingers crossed for wall to wall sunshine until November!!

Well we are all packed up, the car and roof box are bursting at the seams, and we are heading down to Lyme Regis in the morning for the week, have looked at the forecast and it has given it cloudy so fingers crossed
Still it won't be the first or the last time we have pitched the tent in the rain, looks like the forecast for later in the week is going to be ok, can't wait.

Cheers

Keith Packed Up

We were going to go to port eynon this weekend but although it isnt raining now it's supposed to be heavy tomorrow, and i dont fancy pitching on waterlogged ground.
Never mind, spend the money on lager and curry instead....

Well i packed up the car last night and got up this morning to find a severe weather warning for north yorkshire with  potential gales

While im disappointed my holiday wont start till monday, my head has ruled my heart for a change and at least this way i should still have a tent at the end of my week. I appriciated all your  advice guys, i do love this forum and i will give you a report of how my first week away has gone.

We stayed at middlewood farm last bank holiday EXCELLENT site but was very windy, it is quite exposed so I would suggest hanging on to see if the weather changes.

Nice to see another Rotherham-ite on the forums, going back to middlewood farm I had a problem pitching the tent so I looked around the field to spot somebody with the same kit and there was just 1 ,So I popped over for some advise and believe it or not out of all the 100's of people the guy lives at the end of my street, Hows that for Spooky.

Good luck wiyh your first trip,

I posted this in another forum, but thought  I would also post here to make ROGUESLAYER feel much better about his choice to stay put at home!!

We went camping this weekend, near the (York dales/ Sedbergh Holme Open Farm) - BIG mistake!
Friday night was great - not a cloud in the sky , Saturday morning  it was torrential driving rain with gale forces - not much fun for our kids - we stayed till about 7.30 last night and then just ended up leaving the tent and checking into a hotel....(all full up in sedburgh, we had to drive 30 mins to kendal!)

At least we know we did the right thing as when we went back for tent this morning - there were 2 others tents and they said it had been atrocious...

will listen to the forecast next time..
