another mini owner!! YAY!!

I was just about to post that we get two of us along with all our gear - roomy tent, stove, chairs, airbed, gazebo and all the gubbins into one of our classic mini's.............. might have to mone onto two mini's though when the baby's born?? We'll see!!

you're right it is amazing how much stuff you can pack into a small car if you pack right :)

We used to have a little black Fiat Uno which was a cracking car! We went on many a camping holiday with our 3 kids and the car was loaded to the brim. It went up and down the M6 more times than I care to remember. Amazing car! Had to sell it when I found out I was pregnant with twins and we 'upgraded' to a transit van!

Hi all when me and OH first started camping we used our 2 seater Mazda MX5.We went to the Lakes,Bath and even France for 10 days carrying everything we needed,we did take a Peugeot 206 once but I forgot to pack the airbed as everthing had its place in the Mazda( she was not impressed)have a Citroen C5 now can probably fit the house in if I tried .Not as fun to drive though !

Another vote for the Honda Jazz. The placement of the petrol tank under the front seats together with the engine put in sideways are the reason it has more interior room for its exterior dimensions than any other smallish car. It does struggle up hills a bit though, and that's before you put any passengers or camping gear in....

Was that the 1.2?

My 1.4 even towed my little caravan and various trailer tents with no problems

Even the smallest car is capable of towing a trailer fully laden with camping equipment. The trailer is also extremely useful for storing your gear at home...Just hitch up and go. The only items I wouldn't store in my trailer would be sleeping bags.

I've got a Jazz too and I went last year with me and the 2 kids. Great on the way there but had to take OH on the way back and so the tent had to go in my parents car. We are getting a roof box this year (and our other car is a mondeo which is great for a weeks holiday) so the Jazz should be fine for a weekend.

Actually, I love my Jazz because it has SO much room in side and the folding seats are brilliant. It is very economical (I have a 1.2) but I agree that it struggles a bit on hills when it is loaded up. I get 50-55mpg or more on a long trip.

I either go camping by myself or with 1 other person but I take my smart for2. ( I'm sure I must win the award for taking the smallest car camping).

Oreo I am hugely impressed! If only! I had to buy my Peugeot 406 estate purely to accomodate the camping gear which seems to breed each year if only to keep OH in the comfort he deserves (he thinks!)

I really enjoy camping with one of my kids cos there is so little to pack and so much space in the car, until our friend and her daughter join us and her idea of packing beggars belief. A third of my boot was taken up with her case of 'clothes just in case we run into a snowstorm on our 3 day break in Bath in May'.

Have you SEEN the boot of a 406?

Wouldn't mind but she's at least half my size and I got mine and my daughters clothing, hats, towels into a cabin flight bag. She brought spare towels!

Berlingo 2.0HDi - heaps of space and 59mpg.  With three passangers, one rear seat up and two down.

I go camping on a motorbike, sometimes with a pillion!

Reading the various threads everyone makes do with the space they have and if you had the biggest car in the world you'd still fill it up

I take a Kyham freelander BUT have taken a Sunncamp Orbit XL before now (see gallery for how big that one is)

I don't think you need to worry as you are always going to have more luggage room than me

Maybe the man arrested for having 13 people in his car in Nth London was just practicing to see how much he could fit into his car before the summer camping trip????? My car is a Peugeot 307 more than enough for the two of us, in fact a little too big.... thinking of getting rid of it and save some money instead of Paying Gordon Brown to sit in a traffic jam.... not that im bitter or anything....

Last year we had twin six year olds and ourselves in a 3 door corsa with bakrak and roof box, carrying kitchen, stoves Diablo600, 2 airbeds, 4 sleeping bags, table, chairs, clothes, kitchen stuff etc.

We bought a Touran this year!

Plus new roof rack, new moon chairs, blankets, and can take more clothes etc......

My last car was a Xantia but when the 4 of us went camping I had to buy roof bars!!

I've now got a Berlingo!!! Fab boot and excellent for packing stuff in it. I got a dog guard with the car so if I want to fill it to the top I can!!???

Hi
We drive around in a 1.6 Nissan Note, this little car
his good in all department. And we will be getting another next year, but the most important thing for a small car for camping is the Tow bar, to pull your camping trailer, really does make camping so much easier
