Hi, would be greatful for any good tips and advice on trying to stay midgie free!!! Off to Glenmore on Monday and believe the midgies are out in force!! Thanks
We use a citronella oil burning lamp on our OUTDOOR table. works quite well, but I also use a topical insect repellent to exposed skin if there's a bad midgie problem.
thanks for the postings! Have heard about the avon skin so soft, which one is the best, the pink or the green?
Good luck rattyhorses with the walk!!
The green one is best think its called woodland fresh and as well as keeping your skin really soft and supple it also has citronella oil in it to help keep the midges at bay.
and thankyou i actually have a head net for the walk and arnywear lol

The green one (woodland fresh) my wife uses it,and she never gets bit , I use it too ,and if another fella comes up to me and asks for a kiss, I swear I'll smack him one lol.

Thanks for the tip, Im off to Clactoll Beach In August, midgies arnt meant to be too bad but just incase i have just bought 3 bottles on ebay for £9.45 (free p&p)
one tip i got from an italian truck driver is when you have been bitten is to put clear nail varnish over the bite,it stops the air getting to it so stops the itching and it does work, i drive trucks to italy and the mozzies in parts of italy are total thugs they make the scottish seem like wussies.

------------- it,s not my fault i did not touch it honest...
Go to the local Boots and ask for Piriton which is an antihistamine. It will not deter midges but it will ease the allergic reaction like itching.
Also, start using vitamin B-complex and drink the odd drop of limejuice in your tea, cola, water. aparently these will help your body evaporate limey smells which seem to repell midges (except those with a cold...)
I did this on my tour of Scotland in 2005 and it did help me a lot. Believe me when I mention I'm very midge prone as well...
...Or buy a snorkle set and submerge for the duration of the holiday and buy the BBC's DVD series on "How to survive Scotland" Narated by Rab C. Nessbitt.
As etive said: instead of trying to avoid the unavoidable, put your energy in toning down the results of the zillions of itching bumps and erupting scabs...
Heard on radio that a spoonful of organic cider vinegar in a bit of water and honey or apple juice works. Take for a while before going - don't really know how long. I get bitten to death in this country and abroad. Have been taking it for about a month and didn't get bitten once this weekend. Tried sprays, garlic capsules, Avon skin so soft, but this really seems to have worked. Can't taste any vinegar when in apple juice. YAY!!!
Thank you everyone for all the ideas and advice, much appreciated
Off to Glenmore tomorrow, so hope not to be bitten to badly with all the suggestions!!
been at glenmore a few times also rothiemurchus campsite, and to be honest we were never bothered by midges, hope the place is not too busy ,have a good trip
