This will be or first time camping. Going as a group to Sandy Balls in New Forest but worried about pitching my brand new tent on gravel - any advice please?

I personally wouldnt like to stay on a gravel pitch ,is there no grass ones ? :(

You can protect your tent ,groundsheep and feet by laying down a thick tarp or footprint first

You will also ned to make sure you take suitable pegs

No worries ,B&Q do a good big 'un and its cheap too

Just make sure after you pitch up than you tuck all edges of the tap under the tent or you will end up with a flood under your tent if it rains ;)

Thanks so much Skatty! Had looked online and proper groundsheets were going to cost a fortune! Our tent has built in ones but don't want to risk it! Will send husband to B&Q tomorrow!

We pitched our tent on a gravel hard standing at Bainland - Woodhall Spa. We were told it was pea gravel and so I presumed it would be round gravel!! We took the tent down in very high winds which resulted in a small hole in the groundsheet. It was easily fixed with the repair kit but I personally wouldn't camp on gravel again without some very good protection under my groundsheet.

Rock pegs is what you need for this Adventure...about 60p each...just tell them in the shop what you are pitching on ...good luck...in 36 years of camping i have been lucky to of only had to camp on gravel three times...try make this your first and last time....happy camping

We just pitched on a gravel pitch. We used a footprint under to protect and glad we did. I would pitch on gravel again as the camp was worth it.

Most pitches in the states are hardstanding so I'm used to it, we never even used protection and never had any probs.

Just take the necessary precautions and you will be fine. Look for sharp stones and remove sticks before pitching.
