My coleman blow-up matress has started to deflate on me after about five sessions...

Are the army style ones better and why/why not?

Got a mat, airbed, army campbed & a self inflating mattress.

Yet to try / buy one but I have the feeling that a carp bed will be the best...........

We had some self-inflating matresses, I think they were Outwell, not cheap - about £25 each. We went away a few times and both OH and myself would wake up in the morning feeling like we'd been beaten up during the night. Everything ached. We've switched to army style camp beds like the ones currently in argos for £10 and they are fab. It's far more comfortable to be off the floor and it's nice to be able to store your clothes etc under the bed.

The only downside is that there's no chance for any naughty stuff unless you are very creative!

I have used both air bed and campbed, much prefer the campbed. I use a self inflating mat on the campbed now so it is really really comfy. It is good not to be on the floor too.

Haven't used a campbed, but have had no problems with thermarests.

We bought the more expensive ones for us & my boys have the ones that you have got. That could be a solution, buy them 2 at a time. The army aluminium ones (about £20.00 most places) do take a bit of wrestling to get the metal ends on, especially when you get them new and the fabric is very tight. The higher camp beds are great for keeping the tent tidy, as you can tuck you holdall underneath it.

Just be aware that if you have a sleeping pod that slopes away at a tight angle, that you are quite raised off the ground, so higher beds might not fit. Just depends on your particular style of tent. In my tent I sometimes wake up with a damp sleeping bag at the feet end, where the sleeping bag has been pressing on the end of the tent.

Thanks for the useful advice everyone, I quite like the look of the Blacks beds, think I might invest in 2 of those first and see how we go.
