We have booked a week in Cornwall and are due to arrive on Thursday but Metcheck does not give a great forecast. After our washout in Brean at Whitsun (see photos), we don't want to disappoint the children by having to leave early again. Have found a great site, Clippesby Hall, in Great Yarmouth and weather is forecast to be dry and am contemplating changing our destination. I think I will wait and see what weather forecast says on Wednesday because we can be a bit flexible with our dates.
Because we can camp anytime , (being retired for the past 6 summers), that's exactly what we do. We go within 100 mile radius of our house, don't book, just see where the best weather is that weekend. If it's bad all over give it a miss.

We are also due to go away this thursday for 5 days, to south devon. Anyone know what the weather is like down there?
Alternatively, anyone know where the weather is ok at the moment. lol
I don't mind the rain so much as i often walk in it. BUT had bad experience of galeforce winds and collapsing tents in the past and don't fancy it again !!!!
The weather forecast seemed to predict mixed weather for the next week. We are booked into Newton Mill in Bath from Wednesday so are just going to take a chance and hope it isnt pouring with rain when we get there to pitch the tent. As long as its not gale force winds threatening to destroy our tent I dont think I would be detered by a rather damp weather forecast. Its all part of the fun and the kids dont seem to mind as long as we go swimming or to some other indoor entertainment.
Just come back from Cornwall and it rained most of the time so we came back early. I would head for the best weather especially if you have children, (the Met Office have issued an early severe weather warning for Cornwall for Wednesday!!)having said all this it can't rain non stop for that length of time can it?
The Clippesby Hall site is very well protected by trees. So the wind often isn't a factor. On some of the pitches they are also reasonably covered by the cannopy of the trees, so that can help. If the weather is like today, only a house made of bricks would save you!
Clippesby Hall looks great (not cheap though!). They are normally booked up a long time in advance, so if you've got the opportunity, I'd say go there. We're booked to go in September, can't wait!
what site in brean did you go to at whitsun ? we were at northam farm very very windy but no lake in field like you endured.going to warren farm in august and wondered if that was the same site you were at......
Thanks for the replies everyone. Hubbie and I have decided to head down to Cornwall as we have wanted to go that way for ages. Clippesby Hall is definitely a site I will visit though, it looks lovely.
Julesy, sorry to say I was on Warren Farm but although our pitch flooded some were just boggy so choose wisely. We were in field 6 on the opposite side to the shower blocks and all that row was flooded on our side and opposite, The middle row facing the play area also got flooded too. The side nearest the shower blocks weren't too bad. Not sure on what the other fields were like. Site was really nice though, shower, toilet, etc. facilities spotless and plenty of them. Anyway the sun will be shining when you go and you won't have to worry Have a great time and for everyone else going away too
