I use 2 caravan light (tube type) that I run off 12v cigar conntectors, that are then hooked up to a triple adaptor going into a rectifier that is then plugged into to my ehu. This just saves me having to change plugs constantly. Lights run all off one plug, fridge off another, and then a three way running of the third for kettle, heater etc. Im sorry I cant remember the names now, but I have just purchased a new light that is mainly use for i.e. for the car. It's a flourescent tube with a hook on the end. And I picked it up for a fiver. It to also has a 12v cigar connector on it. Leave it with me I will try and find you one and send you the link. Hope this helps

I made my own, plug at one end with 3amp fuse, bulb holder at the other, and fit an in line swtch in between, I have been using it now for 8 yrs with no probs, made my mate one and hes well chuffed with it, TIP, when hanging from roof, make sure its at least 9inch away from canvas, cos they do get warm, and dont exceed a 60 watt bulb.

Hi.. I bought a light fitting in Wilkinsons that had a pendant fitting (is that the right word?) at one end and a clip... then about 2.5m of cable and a plug. It was 2.49 but I have seen them in poundland as well. We used a low energy bulb (so it didn't get too hot) and clipped it on the side of our table. I thought it worked really well and was cheap!

I know there are some other really nice lights about.. I'm sure someone will be along soon with more recommendations!

Sarah x

I'm on the lookout for a lightweight enclosed inspection light for the main light in my tent (as opposed to the professional ones you can get for a tenner at your local industrial supplier - I'll have to do some mods though - needs a 6 metre lightweight cable and maybe a little extra waterproofing so I can use it in the cooking area. It will have a wireless remote control socket.
(I want at least 20 watts of fluorescent light in my large tent)

I'll also be taking a 9 watt reading light.

I have one of those "power station" gizmos with a 17AH lead acid battery in it - for emergencies - and a 12 volt fluourescent to go with it which has both lighter plug and crocs on it.

we got one of these,

http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?isSearch=true&fh_search=inspection+lamp&selected=products&x=30&y=7

just fitted an in-line switch, which sits about 4` up on the side of the tent. put a blob of silicone in the back of the lamp, where the wire enters it just to stop any condensation getting in. then fitted a low wattage energy saver bulb, works great. plenty of light in a large tent.

Hi,

I bought one of these at the weekend, http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1428744-10475506?url=http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/acatalog/Sunnflair_Bulk_HeadLight_.html

but I was in Ikea (Warrington) yesterday and  they have these reduced to £6.99. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90099068

These were reduced as well, but I though OH might have some kind of fit!http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00127018

All the best,
