Hi, I remember the post from last month about the aldi bargains. I asked on that post if the tent had a SIG and was told that it is part SIG, can anyone tell me exactly how it is part sig, ie where it's sewn and where it's not?

Sorry to be so pedantic, only my son has AS and has an extreme aversion to bugs, especially inside the tent/bedroom pods. I see that they are back in aldi and at the lower price of £59.99 and i'm fed up of trawling the net/shops trying to find a new tent

We had bought a eurohike windsor from millets last weekend in the sale as we were told it had a SIG by the shop assistant. Finally got round to putting it up today (first day of no rain) only to find that it's not a SIG.

I have seen the Gelert Horizon 8 in Woolworths at £149.99, almost bought it until i spotted the aldi tent again, and thought if I got the cheaper tent, I'd have some spare cash to spend on more camping bits

Thanks

I really dont know but would take a guess at part SIG meaning that is is sewn in on the bedroom part only. I only say this as I have an older tent which has a SIG on the bedroom part only and the living area had a piece attached on one side only and the rest layed flat to the edges of the tent.

There are a lot of offers on tents at the moment - why not list out what you need and your budget on here and see what suggestions you get

Sorry I cant be of much more help

The part SIG is at the front door. the bed pod is fully enclosed.

but even with full SIG your still going to get bugs that fly in! but the bed pod has a mesh door also,  you could keep closed in the daytime that would keep the bugs out.

Hiya,

You don't say what size tent you need but I really like sig's and have been looking at the  Gelert Utah - you should get a piccie if you google it - it seems a good size and quite a good price.

Hi, We would like a tent with full standing height (preferably throughout), with 2/3 bedrooms, there are 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids, but the kids are 1 boy 1 girl, so would like the option to have a room each and would like a spacious 'living area'.

I have looked at the easy camp licata, I like easy camp, we have the Napoli 300, but for the price Ithink the Gelert Horizon 8 may be better value for money.

I had considered the gelert utah, it's just the bedroom thing that lets it down really.

Thanks

If that tent isn`t any good to you I suggest you take the tent back and tell them you specifically wanted a tent with a SIG, was told by the assistant it had a SIG, but when you got it out and looked you realised it hadn`t. You were missold the item in effect and should be able to return it. It helps if you know the assistants name who gave you the wrong information, or can at least describe them.

Hi, we bought one of the Aldi tents for weekend use, tent does not have full SIG. Ground sheet is attached between side doors and front door. The side doors have flaps which tuck under the ground sheet to keep weather out. The gound sheet itself only extends back to a few inches past the start of the bedroom compartment. Have used tent once so far and found it to be fine, probably using again this weekend. If this is not for you can recommend Diablo , currently good deals on these (£150 ) these have full SIG in living area and bedrooms, and are very spacious, down side is that it takes about 45 mins to erect, also depends on you views on pod tents.

Thanks Beezers, I phoned millets and explained, they were fine about it and said just take it back.

Mojo19, would you say the tent was as warm as a full SIG? Apart from the bugs, warmth is the other reason for wanting a SIG. I don't mind pod tents and had looked at the Diablo but was put off by the pitch size/footprint.

IMO. Tents with full SIG are usually double skinned, this traps an insulating layer of air between inner tent and fly sheet meeaning they tend to stay a bit warmer in cold weather and cooler in hot weather, also if its windy they will be less draughty. Regarding the Aldi tent although when we usaed it we had a bit wind and some heavy overnite rain, temperature was always about 14C so difficult to judge. It was always comfortable and although we took a heater with us didn't really need to use it. In my experience footprint size of Diablo hasn't caused us any problems (check reviews and confirm pitch size before booking) the only issue is pack size, and time it takes to put up.

If you want a fully SIG i'd recommend the Utah, we've got one and its the best tent we've had. Look at the reviews for more ideas though

Well... We decided to go with the Aldi tent, only to find that none of the stores local to us have any. Apparently they were only selling off surplus stocks in certain stores.

So... We came home and I went on Woolworths website to order the Gelert Horizon and found it was reduced again to £129.99, last night it was down from £249.99 to £149.99. So it has been ordered, but they say delivery by Mon 21st July, we had planned to camp each weekend during the summer, starting next weekend after the kids break up from school...

I can stop looking now though lol!

Hi rubymam,

I ordered a tent from woolies website on wednesday, delivery was to the store on thursday 17th.

I had a text message this afternoon saying it was ready for collection, fingers crossed you get your's as quick.

On topic, I bought Aldi's tent and went camping in it last weekend. Leaked like a sieve.

I had a delivery from Woolies recently and it came nearly a week early so you never know. I think they give extra time just in case.

Hope the trips go well anyway. One of my sons is autistic so I can fully sympathise. But when we went camping he seemed to forget all his usual fears and phobias and even the need to be connected to an electrical game system and had a whale of a time.
