Hi all!  I am a total novice.....just bought a 8 berth tent off e-bay - brand new but no instructions and no name tag so I can get them on line which is a bummer!

Anyway we decided to have a go at camping as we have seen most of the world and absolutely nothing of the UK and since we got out dog a few years ago, life seems to have changed totally.

So...what I need to know is.....this tent seems to be in about 4 bits.  Ground sheet attached.  Am I correct in assuming you pitch the larger outer tent first with pegs then add the poles and ropes?  The poles are in two colours so my know-it-all 13 year old seems to think the colours will correspond with the tent when we finally get it all out of the bag?

Any ideas?

On the positive side we have decent sleeping bags, cooker light etc!!!!!

Nice to meet you all by the way!!!

The coloured poles should hopefully correspont to the sleeves that the poles go through - sometimes there is a little bit of the colour of the pole sewn onto the end of the sleeve. Normally the poles go into the sleeves than you put the tent up and peg it out and the guy ropes are done last. Was there a picture on the auction when you bought it? - if so can you post it on here to give us a better idea

All the best

Nope...no name that I can see!  Fire warning was in German though - perhaps that is a clue lol!!!!!!!

We are all a bit laid back about it, thankfully, but there are grey and black poles and on the carrying bag there are two black and grey tabs of ribbon?  Any ideas?

There is an attached groound sheet, a further small ground sheet, and two further pieces that I imagine to be the bedrooms.

It is brand new - never used.  Bedroom either end and sitting area in the centre and an awning.

Not very helpful...I will try and find the photo. I think it may be by Milano.

Anyway must dash cos I am due at work in 10 mins...I will come back on later.

Thanks for your interest...and all info greatly received!!!!!!!!!!!

TTFN

if it has a central dome, this may well use the 2 longer poles, with the shorter ones for bedroom pods and porch.

good luck! you are very brave

The best thing that you can do is to put the thing up in the garden before you go. That way you know that there are no bits missing and no rips or holes. Just as importantly it can be extremely stressful trying to put up a tent for the first time and things aren't going right. Putting it up as a dry run takes all the pressure away and will make it a doddle when you pitch up for real.

Do you have the ebay listing number would it have a picture that we could look at? This would help a lot as most people on here would be able to tell what sort of tent it is, and would be able to advise you better re pitching it.

The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.

Well we took your advice.

Pitched in the field opposite our house....and in the rain too!

Luckily it was colour coded...and it took us about 90 mins to work it out! Considering we have NEVER put up a tent in our life we were quite pleased!!!

We did have problems with the tapes and couldn't work out what they were for, but we assume they are the 'markers' for setting up?

Even more impressive we took the whole thing down two  days later (we slept in there in between times) and it took about 20 mins including getting it all to fit back in the ridiculously small carrying bag!

Well done. You pitched the tent quicker than we did first time! That 90 minutes will be down to about 45 when you pitch for real.
