What is the correct response to " What idiot sleeps under canvas in the snow at Easter" Camp sites are too full these days so lets keep the joys to ourselves.

Just recently I met with cathymac for a mini meet a Scone. When the manager showed me my pitch and I started putting up my tent he said" Won't your friend let you sleep in her caravan then" I said " If I wanted to sleep in a tin tent I would have bought one." Cathy's van was very nice by the way and I was a little tempted when the rain came on.

I must admit we dont get funny looks. Camping was a means of getting in a decent holiday without spending a fortune. Plus we get the freedom to go when and where we like.

If someone else has a problem with our lifestyle choices then tuff. I do not question them about them following the crowds to sunnier climes.

Our kids love the freedom and also muck in wiht the chores, usually without much prompting or cajoling. They meet new friends and have a great time. They are also in the fresh air and get tired naturally. What could be better?

All I say is each ti their own but whatever it is make sure you enjoy it, we do

-------------
We only go camping to see what we have forgotten and what we need to get for next time. If only we could remember where we put the list..................

If we all had a pound for everytime we got THAT LOOK we would be rich but the thing is that some people just dont get it !

One friend of ours never understood why we choose to spend vacations/weekends in a tent without proper beds, running water, flushing toilet, personal shower etc,

Every summer they would be off on a package deal abroad and after every trip they would be unhappy about something like delayed flights, dirty hotel, poor food etc.

After one trip to a particulally bad hotel in Turkey they were so peed off that they decided to try camping.

Now they have 3 tents and are totally addicted.

So when people give us THAT LOOK.. I smile and laugh silently. They really dont know what they are missing and most of them never will.

I know what you mean, the attitude of those who believe that camping is beneath them. As I usually respond, "Just because you sleep in a field doesn't mean you have to live like an animal".

I actually believe that those of us who camp are made of strener stuff than those who don't (we took our youngest on his first camping trip when he was 3 months old). I think it's great especially if you have kids, it's an adventure for them. Perhaps it's a throwback to the pioneer spirit but I prefer camping to a more "conventional" holiday.

Yesterday I was chatting to one of the mums who I know goes camping.  they have a caravan, and I was asking which one it was, and another mum said how much they loved camping, and that she was off on Saturday and couldn't wait to be sleeping int the tent again.

me, hubby and my 2 daughters (17 and 15) were invited to dominican republic next year (we have to pay of course) for 2 weeks, and we have agreed that the girls can go with my mum and dad but me and hubby are packing the car and touring europe for 2 weeks, my sister cant understand why i would want to be stuck in a car or tent for 2 weeks when we could go to a hot climate ............sleeping on the moselle, tasting wine on the rhine, playing the sound of music in austria .......... oh i wonder why my trip is more appealing.

A tent is like a newborn born baby..... to some they all look the same..... but if its yours it's beautiful.
