You'll be fine, stuff every nook and cranny, put your y-fronts inside the wellies and sit on sleeping bags etc.  Don't do what my OH did the last time though, leave the car keys in the boot before packing it up.

Im sorry to be a party pooper oops but is sitting kids on sleeping bags ok like legally or are they big kids.  I do think thats a lot for a picasso though blackadder. A plain roofrack is sometimes cheaper than the roof boxes and we strapped loads tou ours. As said take stuff out of boxes and put shoes/wellies/bits and bobs in the small gaps as apose to trying to get them in ane big bag. Have a pop up laundry basket handy for when you get there and put all the odd bits in it as you unpack. Packing the car is an art which you will learn. I once had a lady ask me if it was a V40 or a Tardis as she could not believe what came out of it.

actually if it is raising the kid up then it is safer as the seatbelt would be in a better place - ie across the shoulder and not the neck

We couldn't fit everything in last year, but we only had a 3 door xzara, so we left behing the chairs and camp kitchen, and spent the week cooking for 4 on a single burner and sitting on the floor .

When organising the packing of the car I had everything sorted into level of *need*, we took minimal food (enough for the first 24 hours).

Things will be better this year, we have a new car, a Zafira, but I am sure we will still fill it!

I'm sure you will be fine!

Thanks :D

On Monday going to do some measuring, re-visit the camping store to finalize the list.

Once the love bus gets through it's service/MOT I can go shopping for the 'gear'!

Johnny.

My last car was a xantia and we bought roof bars for it.The long things like camp kitchen windbreaks on the bottom and tent on top all covered in tarp and very well strapped down!

Kids had sleeping bags (in their stuff bags) stuffed in their foot well and cool box between them.

Boot was jam packed with everything else.

Then one year we were having trouble getting everything on the roof, so decided for the extra £1 per night and a bit of petrol (we were only 1 hour away) was worth it!

Now got a Berlingo but no roof bars. The bloke who sold it to me gave me the dog guard too so I could fill it to the roof when camping.

I'm going on my own with the kids so have to fit it all in my car, I'm taking the smaller tent, day tent, 3 chairs, table, camp kitchen, single gas burner, airbeds, sleeping bags, folding windbreaks which take up alot less room, food & clothes.

I am hoping that because I'm not taking EHU will have space for the loo rather than the fridge, kettle, lights, hairdryer etc

Remember that most people seem to accumulate stuff while on holiday (we always do anyway) so you will probably have more to bring back than you took!

I have a VW Golf , and 2 kids ( one is 17 and the other 13 ) and a Lurcher ( he goes in the boot )

Somehow I managed to fit 2 tents ( 2 man and a 3 man ) ,Self inflating mat ,  3 roll mats , cool bag , 3 sleeping bags , a 'suitcase' type stove , pans ( all nesting inside each other ) folding basket , dog bed, dog food , our food , clothing , travel rug , 2 stools , small backpacking table , coleman corner type collapsible storage unit thing , kites, wash bag , towels , waterproof coats and loads more stuff .

And somehow I ended up buying another dog bed while we were away( he looked like the 'princess and the pea' in the boot when it was on top of his other bed

I also bought a windbreak ( that was out of necessity ! ) , now that was a laugh fitting it in for the homeward journey

This year I have invested in a Thule Ranger roof box/bag and some Aero bars  It should make things a little easier for us
