Hi, we popped down to the Tent and Kite Centre at Raglan to view the Outwell Idaho XL, I was particularly interested in it because of its layout and description on the Outwell website, however having seen it in the flesh and compared it to a Vango Nile nearby I shall not be buying one. The Outwell was inferior to the Vango in looks, quality and spec and at a higher price. One indicator of its' inferiority were the internal sleeping pods, the Vango had full hieght mesh doors whereas the Outwell had only a quarter section mesh and they were baggy. Having herd of Outwells leaking problems from this excellent site as well, as put the final nail in the coffin on a Idaho purchase, so the Nile wins the day.
Ohhhh, had no idea there was a tent place at Raglan, where abouts is it? I might have to nip in to have a look next time the kids and I go to the castle for a picnic during the school holidays.
Here is there website http://campingandkitecentre.co.uk/ . Yes we already have a Vango Vista 800 DLX with 5 years of camping under its belt and its been great
Just returned from 2 weeks in Cornwall in our newly purchased Vango Diablo 600.The weather at times was horrendous, gale force winds and torrential rain but we were warm and dry through it all. Totally happy with the tent bought from Go Outdoors for £199.99 the week after they were reduced to £149.99,just my luck.To sum up an excellent roomy tent that is stable and dry in adverse weather. Mick
In a campsite on top of a hill near Dartmouth a savage blast of wind damaged our Vista buy tearing the centre seam. Vango had the tent back and repaired it for free and sent it back for free! All within a couple of weeks. The blast had been so hard it had flattened our neighbours' tent

Thanks for that, I will get myself up there sometime over the next couple of weeks!
we have had outwell hartford L for the last 4 years not used it loads but its seen a fair few trips, we found it great and as a result of that we have just bought the monty 6 as we need more space now (girls 17 and 15 but still want to come with us) Im now worried about leaks...... i have never heard of the outwells being prone to leaks (wish i found this site 4 years ago) somebody outthere with an outwell please reinstate my confidence...... i dont like leaking tents
------------- A tent is like a newborn born baby..... to some they all look the same..... but if its yours it's beautiful.

We got a new monty 6 (2008) model a few weeks ago and we used it for the first time last weekend. We had such heavy rain for most of the weekend, including a massive downpour while putting the monty up...no leaks, no problems and very happy with our monty 6.
Outwell had a batch or two of faulty tents that somehow got past quality control, but this was a year or two ago and they should all be through the system now.
My own Outwells have given (and give) great service, but I hear that there are no problems exchanging leaky ones.
I've just used my Vermont for the first time (sun, wind & rain) & it was great. Having said that, Vango make great equipment as well, so it's down to personal taste & a design that suits.
Wouldn't by something like a Rage off Ebay though!
We are into our 3rd year with our Monty 6 and apart from me tripping over a guyline and putting a tare down one of the seams (which isn't really a problem with the tent) it's been a great tent
They are both quality made tents and as mentioned will be a matter of taste and style. Don't think you can really say one tent is better than the other without having used both.
I have an Outwell and a Vango. My Vango had a serious defect (see gallery) and is currently being tested again at Vango after our retailer decided to ignore us. Having owned and used both (both polycotton), my Outwell is far superior to the Vango. The fabrics are much better and the polycotton on my Outwell actually feels like fabric unlike my Vango where you can feel the plastic.
