This is the worst part of any camping trip - not for me, but my husband starts getting in a tiz just thinking about it. A couple of quick tips which I have found useful, apologies if mentioned before. As for watching the manufacturer's videos, I think there has been some very clever editing!
1.Make sure that the zips of any openings are partly open to allow air out.
My Kids think that this is the best part as I get them to do rolly pollies up and down on the tent to squeeze the air out.
The Diablo goes back not too badly but the Orchy 500, which supposedly came with an oversized bag, is awful, especially as I do not have a fantastic grip in my hands these days. (In fact I almost think that Vango should be told off for that piece of "marketing"!)
Currently have Orchy out airing in back garden so it will be the fight to get it back in the bag later today!
Ours goes back in pretty easily now we've learned to fold not roll. Our "bag" is more like a suitcase with the top layer for the fly and the bottom for the inner/sig so rolling doesn't really work very well as it ends up too fat. The whole thing works pretty well though so long as we put the fly in last.
I am able to get my Hartford XL and extension plus pegs back into the original bag. The secret is to remove as much air as possible, lie, roll and squash, fold it as neat as possible.
Could not fully erect our Hartford L in the garden (nearly bigger than our house ). Got it back in the bag though. As Bules says 'get all the air out of it'
i spent 15 mins bearhugging our xl when we gave it a trial on the drive! i watched the outwell video too and the nice bespectacled proffessor ommited it from his video, he is talking to his assistant and like me he prolly said something like " theres no ways this tent cam out of that fluffing bag" lol
i will see next suday when i'm packing up to come home from wales!!!
Glad it's not just me. I put up my tent for the first time a couple of days ago. Went round to my friend's house to try, but insisted that she didn't help, as there will only be me and the kids to do it when we get to Cornwall in a few weeks. It took about 50 mins to put up, which I didn't think was too bad considering it was the first time I'd ever had it out of the bag (and that it was about 30 degrees in the shade too). Got the tent down in no time, but couldn't get it folded anything like it had come out of the bag. After a nice glass of wine, me and my mate spent about ten minutes rolling on the tent, much to the amusement of the kids and her neighbour, but it still wouldn't go in the bag. I've now just shoved it unceremoniously in the back of the car where it can stay until we set off for Cornwall on 16th.
