We have just bought an Outwell Montana 6 and managed to get in up okay after watching the video on the Yeomans site.  There were still a few problems though -my groundsheet had ripples going across the floor especially from the right had side of the main door to the right had side of the tent.  I checked where it was pegged down and tried changing the pegs position but I was still left with the ripples, it was as if the groundsheet needed pushed into the corners.

Also the side canopy pole was really sticking into the side of the tent we tried to adjust it but it wouldn't budge.  I have read up on it and some people are mentioning cable ties!  what do I do with them.  The bath tub ground sheet - I have no idea how that is ment to be?  where do the zips go next to the tent or is that ment to be the bit where you walk in? So sorry for all the questions but I have never pitched a tent in my life never mind camping!  Instructions on how to put the tent together would be good but if someone has a simple step by step list of instructions I can follow it would be most apprecriated!  Thank you in advance if anyone helps me out!  29

hi Janette, welcome to the site, and well done , it sounds as if you got it done okay for the first time.

Ripples in the groundsheet could be because of uneven ground slope, or even the roof sleeves not being perfectly central over the poles. did you peg the 4 cormers down quite  taut before you started. Were the tension straps adjusted, this might help. its just teething problems really ,nothing major. Just a case of fiddling with, and practise makes perfect.

The side canopy is a bit of a nuisance on my sisters nevada too, same problem, it seems that the pole is too long and pushes into the tent and pulls on the zip on hers. . some people have put cable ties through the holes in the cap the pole sits in and tied it to the pole to relieve some of the pressure.

And the porch groundsheet question keeps coming up a lot here too, it seems as if it fits either way, and nobody has said for definite which is right or wrong yet.

I 'll have a search through for the pitching instructions and post them up if I find them.

Pink sequin,

the guy on you tube manages it in 8 minutes 52 so for our first ever attempt at pitching we're aiming for under 8 minutes lol, failing that if we manage it under 2 hours we'll be happy from car to cuppa. We're off on Sunday so if anyone sees us trying to pitch it with me shouting at OH whilst trying to look like we know what we're doing I assure you we DON'T tee hee hee....All campers on Lea Valley campsite Edmonton, London please be sympathetic, oh and if you can, all pray for a wind and rain free day that's not too hot for our first effort I shall be eternally grateful. Thanks.

If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules

we have pitched ours once - did the front and back first and just adjusted into position when all was up - took two of us an argument free hour, but that included getting it out of the box etc..

Thank you for the advice.  We did watch the you tube video and got the tent up no bother but its all the little things like the tensioners and guy ropes have no idea how these are ment to go.  The tensioners at the bottom of the tent - I have them as low to the ground as they will go!

I suppose once we get used to the tent and erecting it then the other things will maybe just fall into place.

We can normally put our monty up in about 20 mins, it's filling the interior that takes the time.

We always peg the back 2 corners first then work our way forwards with the roof poles and side poles Once the first roof pole is in we then peg out 3 guy ropes on the back, this keeps the back of the tent up.

When the front roof and side poles go in [ last] , we then peg the front corners andpull the tent square. Then we peg the non adjusting side of the tent[ by doing it this way you can pull out any floor creases before tightening the straps]. Last job is the porch and then the guys. Oh peg out the front guys before you peg the  side of the tent.

We have tried it the you tube way but it took us longer. Happy camping.

This is the third year we have had our monty and we still keep finding slightly different ways to pitch it. We think we've got it sussed then you hear of a slightly different way on this site and have to try it! Sometimes it depends on how windy it is too! You will probably find a way that suits you best.
Enjoy!!
