Our grandchild is 7 months old and very active! Would you take him camping and if you would what would you reccommend for him to do? We took him away when he was about 4 months but he was not really into much then and slept most of the time We are thinking of the New Forest as his mum loves that part of the world but is it ok/have you tried to push a buggy through the forest? Been there years ago but not with a baby!! We have all the kit for a safe baby holiday, travel cot, warm bedding etc but no idea of what baby will think of the great outdoors!! May sound stupid, but any advice, comments greatly appreciated.

think you should be ok with the new forest, loads of paths for walking, and the wild ponys etc, off there on sat, will let you when we return, but go for it iam sure your grandchild will be fine, and nice and cosy in a tent .... good luck we cant wait to go, roll on saturday and please let the sun shine
Consider a back carrier or sling instead of a buggy - makes life a whole lot easier!
I was going to say the same. I was thinking about the ones that sit on your front but i am not sure if a 7 month old is too big (and its only 3.5 years since my youngest was 7 months)

Thanks for the back carrier idea Never thought of that Think I'll check them out
Personally I would reccomend an soft carrier, mine was brilliant, it got so much use, it was some of the best money I have ever spent as a parent. I think I used it from about 6 months old and I think the eldest I used it with was 3 years old at an exhibition at the NEC, so they are a great investment.
Me again - We use slings with our kids until they're about 12 months.
We use a back carrier - a macpac vamoose - very pricey (the most expensive piece of baby kit we have ever bought) but it has been worth it for us - our 3yr old goes in it quite often and loves it the rest of the time our. You can get cheaper ones, too, but they won't be as comfy.
Soft slings are great - they take some getting used to for baby and baby-wearer (!) but they really increase your freedom to wander where you want to go.
My wife is a self confessed sling evangelist and I have cought the bug. (just don't get me started on cloth nappies! - but we use disposables when camping)
I just wrote you a really lengthy reply and lost it!
Anyway it went something like this... we have a Baby Bjorn front carrier which has been incredible. We bought it about 4 years ago for our newborn and used it from when he was a few days old until he was 18 months. He loved being in it as my hubby is tall and baby had a great view. It was so convient and we did loads of walking in it. It has been used for our 2nd child and by 2 other families with their babies too. It was quite expensive around £60 but it has lasted so well and does not look at all worn and washes very well. I would definitely recommend.
we have also got a Bush Baby back carrier which worked really well with our first child who is light and skinny. Plus my brother in-law did all the carrying and it not very tall. However, my hubby is 6ft4" and the Bush Baby did not fit his back very well and he found the child incredibly heavy to carry as his hips could not take the weight for him. I know the Bush Baby back carriers are very highly regarded but just bear in mind that I think they only recommend you using if you are under 6ft 2".
I have used both soft slings and a back carrier with my two and must admit that for walking anything over a mile I do prefer the back carrier for my youngest, though he is 2 now so the soft sling is coming to the end of its life!!
We use the Little Life back pack and have always found it quite comfy to carry.

At that age, I'd definitely go for a back carrier. I had one with wheels like this, that you can use as a pushchair, a seat or a back carrier. Very versatile.
We had a Little Life Voyager for Charlie. I could use it for hours without hurting my poorly back and hip. If you get the straps properly positioned they are incredibly comfortable for adult and child. What I liked was you put them on/off with the child still in and they stand upright with just a little help, so its very hands free. Highly recommended. voyager
