Hi, don't know if anyone can help - hope this is the right place and its not too silly a question?
My 15 year old son is 6 foot tall. We only go camping rarely and our tent has 3 sleeping pods - all for 2 or more people (can't remember exactly). Trouble is that the sides of the tent slope down at such an angle that his airbed touches the side of the tent and then if it rains his sleeping bag gets wet. He now hates camping, lol
Anyway do I need to water proof the tent? or is it because his bed is touching the tent itself. It wasn't a hughely expensive tent, but I can't afford to buy another one. Any suggestions on what I might do - we are supposed to be off to Scotland in a couple of days or so?
Could he move into the middle pod or is that for you?? Or put his bags etc along the side touching the tent so that his bed is further away & he can't slide there during the night.
All 3 pods are the same shape - except one is slightly wider - I usually have that because one of the younger ones usually comes in with me. I suppose we could swap though. He is still too long though, but could lay at an angle Sam says above.
I know this problem as OH is 6ft 4ins in the end we bought a 5 man tent so we could open the bit between compartments and lay length ways. Doesn't help you but hopefully when he's older he can still enjoy camping in a suitable tent.

"Will nylon leak if you touch it while it's raining?
*
Nylon, unlike canvas, will not leak if touched while it's raining. Polyurethane coatings on nylon tents prevent water from passing through. Capillary action in canvas tents allows water to enter when touched."
So why do nylon tents have a hydrostatic head rating if none of them leak?
I was in my Leben Lingen 6 on Friday with a HH of 1500mm in the Lakes and it was leaking from where my head had been touching the roof on a previous trip.
my tent is nylon. I did notice that wherever anything was touchiing it, the rain was coming in. I had to move everything to the centre away from the sides. The tent has inner seperate bedroom pods, but my son was getting wet where his feet were touching the nylon.
I would have thought mine was well ventilated as there is about a 4 inch gap all around between the ground and the tent sides, lol. Also, his sleeping bag was soaked through each time - would there be enough condensation to do this? Also only happened when it rained.
