Hi everyone, its nearly holiday time I was just wondering about pitching in the rain as it looks like it may be a bit showery . We have an outwell hartford xl so have to pitch the inner first. If it is raining while we set up, how long is it likely to take for it to dry out on the inside?
I'd like to know the answer to this too - we've the Georgia xl which we've to put up the inside bit first.
I was thinking about maybe throwing over the outer layer on the top of the inner whilst we put it up and try and do it that way - no idea if this will work though.
We have pitched our campus in the rain, what we did was once the tent was up but before we put anything in, mop up anything major with kitchen roll then just wack the heater on and zip up all the doors, was dryed out in no time.
If you are not taking a heater, sorry no idea ! lol
I wouldn't pitch an inner first tent in bucketing rain. If it's raining that heavily when we arrive, we just wait for it to stop, or at least slow down to a drizzle. This is why we always make sure we arrive at our site by mid afternoon at the latest, even if it means an addition overnight stop in a cheap hotel en route, as it then gives us plenty of time to play with.
I'm not so worried about rain (as we're outer-first or all-in-one) but more about pitching on what could be a swamp due to the non-stop rain since yesterday afternoon.
It can rain all it likes once the tent is pitched but I can't stand it being all squeltchy underfoot =(
------------- Boys don't grow up. Their toys just get more dangerous.
When we arrived here at Trevornick last Saturday we were sent to our pitch too early as the previous people were still packing up their caravan and stuff. When they lifted the groundsheet out of their awning we were very disappointed, it was just one huge patch of mud! They then drove the caravan off and it was the same under there too. We rang the office and asked them to come and have a look, but nobody turned up. We pitched our tent and canopy over the mud patch so we at least had some grass to sit out on. During the week we have had an incredible amount of rain, under our canopy became like a bog, so we went into the office and they came and put some sand stuff down, which seemed to work - until we got more incredibly heavy rain! I'm just so relieved we brought a groundsheet for inside the canopy, otherwise the inside of our tent would have been an absolute mess. We're here for another week, its windy now and sunny so hopefully things will dry out a little. That said, I feel sorry for the people coming on this pitch after us, as it's just gradually going to get worse and worse. Perhaps if the site had come originally when we expressed our concerns they could have put sand down then and the problem wouldn't be so bad.
