We are going camping for the first time next week and we are wondering whether anyone has any advice on which way to orientate our tent on the pitch ? Silly question perhaps but hear me out...
We have an Outwell Montana 6 and the pitches we have seen are in squares bordered on 3 sides (I know this might be obvious to some but I'm learning !). Anyway, considering the openings on the Outwell and our need for privacy etc (and whether we should take into account where the sun will be at the hottest part of the day) which way do you think we should pitch it ?
Thanks for your patience with a newby and for any advice
I guess it will have some baring on how your neighbours pitch?
I think I preferred to have the shade in the morning, especially this past week, otherwise it would have been too hot by 7:30am

------------- A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.
Most people pitch facing out towards the campsite. We use a windbreak for some privacy, but thats not a hard and fast rule, there is always room for personal preference.
As said; personal preference should prevail in your choice of putting up the tent your way. At least you've thought of the best way of putting it up for you (sun or not, privacy of rather open to social contact and borrowing cups of sugar if you're a blonde) unlike some campers that just bung their tent on pitch without regarding others or their guy lines or even invade the privacy of other campers by parking their car in you view...
There's only one way of pitching and that's the best way you can think of for your preferences, but I should keep the roofy bit pointing skywards, if I were you....
