Not sure if they still have them but Tesco had some kids ones in their camping sale for about £2. Although they are kids, just because they are in pink and blue, they can be used by anyone and are really bright.
We have a Coleman and a vango light (both rechargeable) but if you charge them before you leave you can easily get a couple of nights out of them. The vango light also came with a attachment to use with the cigarette lighter in the car.
We use a battery powered Coleman collapsible lantern for just sitting and a battery powered UFO light for reading by (little round light about the same size as a saucer, hence the name, with concentric rings of LED lights, just think Close Encounter).

Buy a fluorescent light that can be powered from the car. Loads of types available, ask at any camping shop.
Yep...I'm with you there..!..can't beat them. We have tried other types but always come back to the old florecent strips.

UFO lights, from poundland or wilkinsons, do a search in equipment forum. Lightweight and very bright.
I have been everywhere trying to find these UFO lights. It got to the point where I had to show OH a pic as he was convinced that I had dreamt them up!
They haven't got any in our local Wilkinsons or any of the pound shops. I have now given up.
There are lots of UFO lights on ebay but quite possibly of dubious quality. I'm thinking of getting a gas lantern for my new acquisition (a canvas Sunncamp villa from ebay)
