Sorry if this seems like a silly question but I am relatively new to camping, Whilst taking down the childrens dome tent yesterday some of the fibreglass poles have become detached from the elastciated cord. We have not managed to fit them back together. Is it ok to use the poles just slotted together next time we use the tent or do we need to persevere. I wil be sleeping in the tent next week at cub camp so don't want to embarass myself! Thanks
Thanks - I will give it a go tomorrow - if not will try a camping shop - I am determined not to have my tent falling down witnessed by all those "experts". Cheers
We had the same happen to us took the pole to CCC and he made us feel like muppets fixed it in 2 mins.
He melted the end of the cord briefly with a lighter to stop it fraying then just threaded it thro the pole then when he had done that he put the pole on the floor and stretced the elastic then put his foot on the taught elastic near to the pole he had just threaded and threaded te next section on repaeating the pulling of the cord and standing on it for each section. when he got to the end he just tied a big knot and said there you go! he did suggest having a bit of spare cord in the bag for repairs tho.!
sometimes the elastic is too big a diameter to fit down the hole,so tie a piece of fishing line to the darning needle slide down hole through elastict tie knot in fishing line and pull elastic through pole, tie a knot in elastic so it dosent slide back through

The elastic is simply to keep the pole sections together for ease of assembly. It has no structural purpose since the pole sections are under compression when erected.
Thanks for all the replies - bought some elastic shock cord from millets and now fixed as good as new - all set to go - I see that the next day of sun is forecast for Saturday 1th when we set up cub camp - that must be a good sign! Cheers
