Hi all

We're going away in a couple of weeks but have not had chance to waterproof our 20 year old Cabanon tent.

Would you guy's risk it with the dodgy weather system or would you play safe & get another tent for long weekend use.

Your thoughts are always welcomed

Personally I'd risk it. It's only water at the end of the day. But then I've camped in the snow and some might say my decision-making is questionable

If the weather is dry when you pitch up, why not do a spot of re-proofing then if you have concerns?

Yeah I did think that one, trouble is it's my OH first camping trip & I don't want to put her off for life, having water flowing into the tent would kill off any chance of her going again.

I guess I just need to hope for good weather between now & going away.

Hi, I take the tent to be canvas, i dont think it would , but it might if you toch the sides when wet, my 25 year + orange vango aint leaked, but if you touch the sides it might . Saying that there are some lovely tents about.

When canvas has been stored for a few years, it needs to get soaked & allowed to dry before it becomes fully waterproof again. So if the tent hasn't been used for a long time it may leak, however all it will be is a very fine spray. Once it's dried out after the rain, it won't leak again for the rest of the holiday.

You can always reproof once its up.... chance is it will be ok. Most of the waterproof on a cab is done by the material tightening, once wet in the first place

Hi, just bought a secondhand Cabanon Elody - could be 10-12 years old. Its got the Rubberised/PVC roof and clour matched mudwalling though. Erected it yesterday for first time and on checking this morning ( didnt rain overnight) theres a lot of condensation under the roof. I did have the roof lining in place too. Is this normal.

Dont remember it on my previous all canvas type tents back in early 70's/80's

Also rather foolishly I attempted to remove what I took to be a rust stain from rear wall. Tried Lemaon juice and salt - didnt budge it. Then tried neat bleach over several hours - that removed it. Trouble is when I went to rinse the area and gave a fairly mild brush - the canvas disintergrated! Dont say it , I have used all the expletives under the sun. Can anyone recommend supplier of grey canvas please.

I noticed on my new Cabanon canvas tent that it always felt wet on the inside to touch every morning. But no spray or rain ever came into the tent. It just felt damp in there, first thing, whether it rains or not, it is always the same.

Have you encountered any other problems with your Noumea....considering buying one and would be nice to know what the good and bad points are from an actual user.
