Arrived back a couple of hours ago from 2 weeks in France, Paris and Provence/Languedoc. Although experienced campers we were in need of some new ideas.
We owe thanks to these forums for advice and ideas on such things as seam sealing (redid the old polycotton tent rather than buy polyester), Aldi special offers (got the self inflating airbeds and ufo lights), using bags of ice from the supermarket in the cold box, kitchen storage unit from Argos, wardrobe (for all the odds and ends, not clothes) and so on.
The only item we didn't use was a double outhouse bought as a kitchen tent. We used a Khyam windbreak with integral awning instead. I'm sure the outhouse will be used when camping in England but with temperatures over 30C everyday who needs a kitchen tent?
Thanks to all contributors for their ideas, just reading other peoples postings helped us get more from the holiday.
Good to hear it went well, without hijacking the thread completely could you outline the succesful seam sealing technique? I will apply it to our porch awning!
Look at the topic sealing seams, foggers has just reposted his advice.
On my tent the tape over the seams had lifted in many places. I gently pealed back the tape where it was lifting. I cleaned the area under the tape with isopropyl alcohol. I then used a seam sealent to glue the tape back over the seams. I prefer the silicone seam sealer as it is less messy.
Glad you had a great time - I like reading of other peoples' experiences, sometimes a tip gets mentioned in passing which then seems so obvious once learned! I'm thinking of looking at the Khyam windbreak/awning, seems a sensible idea as a rain canopy too rather than buy an extension.

Yes I found that thanks, I'm after some kind of tape to stick over a non taped seam
