Moving on from cooking in tents is it safe to have gas lights? We are going camping in October and were told to get a few of these but surely the dangers are the same as cooking with a sig.
Treat any gas appliance with respect, and it has to be said with common sense. Gas lights are fine and provide good light and a degree of warmth, but can be quite expensive. HTH
Hy Ivy.
Any portable gas appliance could leak and those potable small cylinders do not hold much LPG also the most likely place a cooker or fridge could spring a leak after you set it up and check it, is in a bent pipe, once you have fitted the canister to the light and checked it with a little soapy water,it should in my opinion be OK to use.

How do you check with soapy water? I have several gas lamps and on all of them the seal is inaccessible when the canister is installed, so it will be a great help if you can explain the method of checking.
Hi Berni.
Old the light that is connected to the canister on its side and pour a dribble of water around the seal or joint,Gas under pressure will show if it is leaking I assure you

Thanks for the info, we dont really want to use EHU as those pitches are all close together and we want to pitch away from everyone else. I'm beginning to think we are slightly nuts going camping in October but it should be fun!

As I said, Rex, the seal is inaccessible. The top of the canister is shrouded by the lamp casing on most Campingaz lamps.
Hi Again Bernie.
The one I used years ago used to just push in and twist to seal, but I have not used gas lights for years now, and if what you have just told me that they can not be checked for leakage, I definitely would refrain from using that type. But as discussed, even if they did leak unless you smoked near them the LPG would fall harmlessly down to the ground in a none SIG environment.

Rex.
