yours? I have a montana 6 so it has a SIG. Do you store it outside behind something.I like to use the side door of the monty when its tipping it down of rain and i thing the fridge may take up all the room in there.

I have a kitchen tent and so it goes in there.  I would not feel comfortable keeping it in a SIG tent like my Minny or your Monty.  I assume that you do not have the canopy or extension to the Monty?  If you did then the fridge could be  hidden in the enclosed side porch and use the front door for a rain-protected access to the tent.

Hi carol.
I am afraid it is a sign of the times we require all the mod cons these days so we have to have a safe and secure
place to use them and without doubt a purposely designed kitchen tent is the best, some that will do the job can be bought for around £50 new up to the £200 for the Cabanon one, but I have seen light weight ones second hand for £10 + P+P on eBay.
The majority of sites don't charge for you to use a kitchen tent, but I would pay up to £2 a night for the use myself. Any more and I would not use the site.
Regards
Rex

Lizzy 801Thing is most of the year it will be run by gas. Do you run yours on gas in the tent? Only in the oct half term will it be used on EHU.I did consider the canopy till i saw the price.I do have however the decathalon tarp and two wind breaks.Would this arrangement be ok or would i need to put it somwhere draught free so the flame doesnt get blown out? Thanks in advance

I don't think a windbreak and tarp set up would work, firstly as you say I think you'd struggle to keep it alight, plus won't it just get all nasty and manky if it's outside?

We use ours in our Cabanons on gas without a second thought but they aren't SIG and we very rarely use a groundsheet in the front of the tent. We have also used a kitchen tent and a daytent.

I don't know how I'd feel about using one in a full SIG tent? I'd probably not be very comfortable with it but I'm not sure I'm technical enough to know whether it's just a perceived risk or a real risk?

Carole, could you use your windbreaks and tarp to make a porch for the main front door or the other side door on your Montana?  You'd then have the rainporch free for the fridge.  It would be out of sight (wouldn't fancy leaving an expensive 3 way fridge in view) and not in the SIG area of the tent.

Hi all!

Newby here, husband to Camping Doris.

Threeways are very easily blown out by even the gentlest of breezes, due to the way they are vented to ignite.

I'm not sure of the average output of carbon monoxide emitted by a threeway fridge, it's not going to be high output like a gasfire or boiler.

However, what I can say is that we have a Vario 600 Plus, which is around about the same amount of cross sectional floor area as the Monty 6, and has a SIG, and have had no troubles.

I might be telling grannie how to suck eggs here, so if you are bored easily please switch to another link now, those interested in safety, please stay tuned!!

Just to allay some fears, Carbon monoxide accumulates and lays just as water. It has relatively the same mass as water.

Now as seasoned campers, I expect most people never have a level pitch?

So you normally pitch with your bed on the highest aspect of the sloping pitch?

If you poured water into your tent with a Sewn In Groundsheet (SIG) , you would see an accumulation or "puddle" at the far end (or bottom) of the tent away from where you are sleeping.

If you don't have a SIG, there is no obvious issue, as the water or gas would pour away, unless you have some form of material forming a "dam", which is highly unlikely.  (I digress a tad).

Now at this far end of the tent, is the front entrance.  This is normally a zip, which in itself is not "waterproof".   Water, and CO will "drip" away from the tent, and likewise, if you open your tent door the water or gas (if accumulated) will pour away.  An added safeguard is to open the electrical hook up zip during the day and as usual you normally have the doors open for all those comings and goings.

So in a nutshell, threeways to me have not posed a problem.

Hope this helps and is not too technical.

We've just come back from 5 days at Thornton's Holt and used ours in our Idaho xl with a SIG but put it in the porch and did not put in the detachable ground sheet.  We put it on a table facing with the hot bit away from the canvas.

Fab item x

Hi all
You can cook with LPG you can run your cooler on LPG and if you have checked to see if it is leaking and it is not there is a very good chance it wont, thousands of campers use their LPG cookers and fridges in their tents with SIG.
That is your choice I just highlighted a possible risk.
What you decide to do is up to you, but answer me this have you ever seen a tent with a SIG, kitted out with a kitchen area, If not I wonder why If you decide to use LPG in a tent with a SIG take extra care and check the appliance for leaks as soon as you connect it to the GAS.
all the best
Rex.
