We are planning to go away in a couple of weeks for a few nights but do we need to pitch and spray our Khyam Montreal with a hose to waterproof it? I'm sure I've read on here you need to do this with new tents??
Hi treacal.
I have just looked up your tent spec and apart from a defect in the tent it should be fine,
Members do recommend you pitch lightweight tents just to check for defects. What I would always do is take a tube of seal sealer just in case and what I would do if I were you I would buy one of the cheap builders tarps to take with you, cost about £5 if the worst came, you could always throw the tarp over the tent and guy it down to finish your stay, you would require extra pegs and guy ropes.
All the best have a nice camp.

Thanks Rex, we did pitch it yesterday quickly but it was so windy we didn't really want to leave it up as it wasn't guyed down so took it straight down again!
you used to do it with cotton typ tents it tightens the fabric but I have never botherd with modern nylon one the first rain shower usualy dose it ,but I allways carry a can of fab seal in the kit bag for the odd seam that may leak on the first shower we just spray any area that may leak after its dried out. the tent instructions should tell you if you have to.

I always wondered this myself. I am a fairly amateur camper, and usually do what the shops say and with the two tents that I have bought from new I was told to buy a load of seam sealent and spray as well. Is this normal and why cant manufacturers do this when they make a tent? I treated our latest one with sealent before we went and it leaked on one side. On closer inspection the fabric is actually slightly different shade to the rest so I assume it came from a different bolt of cloth. We sealed it again and when it next rained, we had no problems at all. So forgive me for the dumb newbie question, but do we have to do the whole seam/spray sealent every time we go out or is it a seasonal thing or just after it rains each time? I had thought about investing in an expensive named make of tent (ours isnt anything currently to write home about it seems) but I wanted to see if we all liked going camping first.
