Hi. The little folding aluminium windshields foggers mentions are good.

We also have a minimalist cooking stand which is specifically designed to use with suitcase stoves http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/ishop/877/shopscr2015.html  We've had ours several years and its brilliant. It does exactly what it says on the tin and folds down to nothing for transport and storage. Possibly one of the most useful things I've ever bought for camping!

I've tried using a suitcase stove with a 'normal' kitchen stand and there was a load of wasted space inside the shielded area. Not exactly a problem I know but the little Uno stand is a much better fit to purpose if you're only going to be using a suitcase stove. MT

we saw one of those in the camping shop, just before we went away. We were buying a 7 pole wind break at the time, which did help a  bit!

We were tempted and if the shop hadn't just have been closing we might have toyed with the idea a bit longer and bought one :(

only trouble is, one isn't enough if you want to boil a kettle while you fry your bacon!

That's why you need 2 stoves Sonja! (I must remember to take a piccie while we're away next week!  )  That must have been some mad weather you had!

What a posh kettle you have! Our kitchen is a bit like yours, so I can't fit 2 suitcase stoves side by side, one has to be turned 90degrees to fit, but I still think they're fab! I keep my table next to it as all the kitchen top is taken up with the 2 stoves.

Dezzie, you are right about the price of the gas cannisters. I ran out while we were at Hamble, I bought 2 cans and didn't get much change from a fiver! Now I always make sure I've been to wilko before we go away!

our very posh kettle was a present from an american friend whose husband melted our similar looking elecric kettle, at home,  by putting it on the gas stove!

I forgot to pack it, last time we went to a festival so another friend got me the cute one with blue handles that we used last week.

It's a shame those camp kitchen thingies don't come wide enough for two suitcase cookers the right way round. :(

our second cooker packed up altogether last week (it must be at least 10 years old) so we really were 'challenged' in our latest kitchen.  We'd left the camp kitchen stand behind as it was a bit bent, after two weeks on that slope last year and anyway we would have had to have sacrificed something else to fit it in. we just took the shield bit, which worked fine on the ground when the weather was a bit more reasonable.

I do love the dorset slopes but they are a bit more challenging weather wise than the New Forest. At least you don't have to guard everything from the horses!

do not buy your cannisters in halfords. I went without rather than pay their price last year (although i think they have seen sense and dropped it a bit) but luckily found some for reasonable money in a campsite shop at Osmington Mills.

but do buy a stove top barbecue , from lakeland (do they still do it ?)   it does lovely croissants too :)

I bought two of the suitcase cookers a few weeks ago before our first trip from Go Outdoors for £4.99 each and they were very good.

I have nothing to compare them with but our kettle boiled within 5 minutes and i got the gas from Asda 4 for £2.37, and I agree we can really crack on with breakfast with the two of them and the cannisters in each lasted the week just for breakfast and evening meals each day so i still have six that should see me through the rest of this year.

Well pleased with them so far.

bargains!

they probably do get less effective as they get older.  Ours were a bit used and abused :(

We have two 'suitcase' stoves: Camp Bistro and a BrightSpark one (which is best as the flame is more protected). Great accessory is a hub-cap hotplate/griddle that has a reservoir you put water in underneath that also catches the fat from anything you're grilling. Lakeland sold them but also found at a local camping store (Wynnster branded).
