Fanstatic idea ,keep it up !!

I gave up smoking 4 years ago and the money saved paid for me to learn to drive and my first car!!

Its sooooo easy after the firast week ,I never used anything and just stopped ,was a lot easier than I thought so dont worry .Each 'craving ' only last a couple of mins

failed at first hurdle lol i was talking to some doctors yesterday and they have recomended the champix as mentioned by shanklys best so tomorrow i am making a dr appointment to see if he will put me on the programme. i did really well yesterday but was so agitated and got my self in quite a bad state of cold turkey that hubby said he would get me some fags and we will start on monday when i have seen the Dr. i feel very dissapointed but not defeated. the gum i had was the lower strength and i think thats where i went wrong .......... but chin up i will go to docs and hopefully still get new tent ......... might be 9 weeks now not 8 as you still smoke when you start the programme.

Naughty hubby ,that was soooooooooo wrong of him!!!!

I dealt with losing my dad to cancer whilst I was quiting so if I can do it im sure as heck you can ,stop making bloody excuses ,chuck the fags out and start again!!

Im on your case now missy!!

Do you realise the very next drag you take could cause a blood cot to your lung and you could be dead withing minutes ?! Just takes one!!!

don't give up on giving up, i quit 2 years ago and the frightening thing to me. was speaking to people who had given up for 20 years or so and "could still do with a fag". i thought how could you go for 20 years wanting a fag, it was so scary. but believe me you will be so glad when you quit. i found the first week an absolute nightmare, even to the point that i would put off buying any, until i got to the next shop. then get there and push yourself on to the next shop, finally you get to work with no cigarettes and doh you have to go without. it is very hard for the first week or so, then the next couple of months is not about beating the craving as this goes after about a week but it is about beating the habit. try to find something else to occupy your mind like a rubix cube,a walk or even a jog or something. and yes after 2 years i do still fancy a fag from time to time but i certainly don`t need one, nor will i have one. i also fancy a porsche car but i certainly don`t need one nor will i have one.  hope this helps.

skatty thank you for the wake up call and the telling off  everything that you have said is correct ........ and your right my excuses are crap!!!! anyway i spoke to some more doctors today and they didnt really rate the champix programme but said its will power alone mostly, so tomorrow i am off to the chemist  for stronger gum. i came to work tonight at midnight and was very tempted to stop at the garage and buy some but i didnt ....... do i get a little brownie point for that?

rhondda reg i like the idea about 'going to the next shop' i am deffo going to try harder cos i want my tent and im not allowed it unless i save up ...... and sod coming to work at midnight every night for the extra cash!!!!

once again skatty thanks....... i need some one on my case

Gilly your doctors response doesnt suprise me, it costs them to put you on them! they have to commit to 10 weeks of support as part of the deal to put you on them. I have tried everything in the book and these were the only things that worked. It takes some willpower yes but these tablets sure help. I know loads of people and i mean about 30-40 people who were very heavy smokers, some had smoked for 60 years and they managed to pack in on them.

I will guarantee you that you wont pack in off gum and willpower alone, been there got the t-shirt.

After smoking about 30-40 a day, I stopped about 5 years ago. Didn't need any patches, hynotism, acupuncture nor any financial inducement. What did it for me was one of my daughters telling me I was going to die if I carried on smoking and she'd rather I didn't. Stopped then and there. Nothing like children to tell it like it is.
