The kids and I are off to Widemouth Bay next Saturday (23rd).
Have only just realised that I can't have the pitch until 4pm!!!!!!! (What a nightmare). I was planning to leave early to give myself time to get through the traffic, but I don't want to be hanging around with a fully loaded car and trailer and 4 bored kids. Any suggestions? Is there anywhere in the town I can take them where the gear will be safe?
I can't believe they don't let you on till 4, I will have great fun getting the tent up and all the stuff sorted, lord knows what they will have for tea, anyone know of a good chippy?
Hi Mamp.
When you get to the site Just try to book in. use a bit of psychology and apologise for wasting their time and ask were you can park your car until the time comes. You never know if they are not over busy they may let you pitch. if not when you park your car you can walk around the site and make a note of what pitch you would like and on booking in ask if you can go there.
Widemouth bay is an exposed area of coast remember to put the back of your tent to the wind.
Have a nice stay. We go onto one of the small sites there now and again.
Regards
Rex.
As for tea buy every one a delicious Cornish pasty.a meal in a pastry case

I was thinking of playing on the stressed mother act and saying hadn't realised the check in time as presumed it would be around lunch like all other sites have stayed on before.
As for back to the wind, am well prepared for that and have invested in some delta pegs, so I hope it will be ok. Have stayed in lots of other areas of Cornwall but this is a first time in Bude.
I love Cornish pasties and they do taste much better down there, the only problem is, the kids won't eat them, but that won't stop me and my dad has put his order in for me to take him some back.
There are 2 chip shops but both close pretty early (9pm is the latest)
Loads of cafes though
Bude is pretty laid back, I'm sure your stuff will be fine
You could probably leave the trailer at the camp site anyway (is it Widemouth Bay Caravan park or Budemeadows?) - They're both quite large
While your down there visit Wooda Camping & Caravan park - much nicer than the rest of them - it's on the other side of town though and the beach you are going to is better for the kids
It's Widemouth Bay we are going to, although I have heard some really good reports about Woodam, so I think I will check it out for next year. Thanks for the tip about the chippies .
We stayed at sandymouth bay near bude at the beginning of the summer holidays and although their literature said 4pm i called them and we were able to get on from 12pm.
We stayed a few years back on the site opposite. It is quite a walk to Bude but worth going to as it has some lovely shops and places to eat. There is a big leisure centre just outside Bude next to the Morrisons. If all else fails and the weather is bad you can always go swimming for a couple of hours. Although whether you will feel like putting a tent up after is another thing.
Also check out Crackington Haven down the road. Best cream Teas around. Last time we went was the day before the Boscastle flooding and the lovely tea shop got ruined but I am sure they have rebuilt by now.
