Have a Monty six and am considering getting one of those 40w outwell lights that you can hang in your tent.  They are not cheap though and i was wondering if anyone had one and what sort of light they gave off.

Or do people just use lamps or have a light fitting on a flex to hang in the tent.

We went to Wilkinsons and bought some flex cable.  We added a light fitting and a switch further down.  We used sealant to seal the gaps (jut in case of damp).  To this we added a low energy light bulb and a paper globe lightshade.  I think the whole thing cost about £6.

We used it in France recently and it worked an absolute treat.  Friends of ours have done the same and added a dimmer as their kids like to have a light on at night.

You could try this as an option.

I bought a clip on light from Woolies (it think it was). It's like a normal bulb fitting with a big spring loaded clip (bit like a big hair clip) and I use a low energy bulb - gives out loads of light. It has a really long flex so no problem clipping to the tent window toggles on the roof. Teh cable was hel by the velcro bits up the tent that are ther in the Hartford for electric cables.

I originally bought it for using to do cross stitch in the caravan and put a daylight bulb in it.

Here it is

40 watts of incandescent light is rather pants.
Unfortunately it's difficult to fit compact fluorescents into off the shelf bulkhead fittings too.

In my living area I used an Ikea uplighter with one of their lovely 20 watt fluorescent globes in it.
Comes packed in a small box.
The version with the reading lamp is £9.99 (lamps extra)

The bedroom had a couple of Ikea clip ons (£1.99) with 7 watt lamps. (clipped onto the Ikea clothes rails )

I also had an 8 watt linear fluorescent inspection lamp on a 5 meter cable (Machine mart, £8.00-ish) in case I wanted to cook outdoors in the dark. Rather harsh light though ...

Nothing attached to the tent itself.

we bought one of the outwell lamps and it worked wonderfully, it gave ideal light in our vermont for the kids to play when the light was fading outside , much better then trying to hang a battery operated lantern up, my advice is go and buy one well worth the money.

40 watt bulb ok for tent from the roof without damaging tent, we have one with standard fittings but on R.C.D for the damp. Not too good for card playing at night, you'll need a lamp on your table for that.
