Our first camping trip starts tomorrow, Wolds Way in N Yorks for 4 nights. The car is packed (we've actually got pretty much everything in there!) just a few bits to do in the morning and then we're off. I'm nervous in that I don't know what to expect but excited as well and just hope the weather isn't too bad (I'm expecting it to be bad so anything less will be a bonus!). Having a day in York, a day at Flamingoland and a day on the N Yorks railway from Pickering to Whitby so won't be on the site very much really.
Will report back on Friday how things went...
To anyone else venturing out this week I hope you have a great time and good luck with the great British weather
quick update, arrived yesterday morning to driving rain and thats how its been since. Last night was a nightmare, didnt get any sleep at all, wind was awful and the rain incessant. Tent seems to be coping which i'm suprised about, wish i was coping as well! Not enjoying things so far, weather has been about as bad as it could have been. Gonna be a long week!
Thanks for the encouragement, gonna stick it out. Flamingo land tomorrow and whitby on thurs so that should help pass the time. Wind seems to have died down and rain has stopped (for now).
Have a hot shower on your return each day and a very large glass of chilled wine. Wrap up in fleeces and play cards - if your site has laundry facilities use the tumble dryer to dry clothes out . Enjoy !

I'm not so shy now .Am colourful pyjama- wearing person who likes to say hello.
Minty - she's a girls best friend and Aurora and Colin keep us snug and warm.
Sea life centre at Scarborough is a good day for little ones and a lot of it is indoors. Some car park stickers you get from the highway robbery pay and display machines have a fiver off admission. Do hope it gets better for you.
Wolds way is a very good site and I really enjoyed it last year, but being situated on top of a hill makes it very exposed to the wind. If you fancy a good pub meal, get off the train at Grosmont and walk 50 yrds up the hill on the left, fantastic food!.
well we've had more horrendous weather today, winds have subsided but blimey have we had some rain! Went to filey this afty which was nice (still raining though). Had a fantastic pub meal at the providence in Levington last night, the steak pie was the best i've ever had! Just had a shower and gonna read for a bit now. And its actually not raining at the mo (i get the feeling that won't last though!). Campsite is very wet and muddy now so got lots of filthy clothes, thankfully there is a washing machine and tumble dryer. Anyway gonna settle down for the night, lets hope I get some sleep tonight! Night folks
Well we're back home after spending the planned 4 nights at Wolds way. I'm pleased we stuck at it as we did have a great time despite the weather. The campsite is fantastic which no doubt helped, we had a fantastic day at Flamingo Land on Wednesday (and nice weather). The site was getting busy as we left today (all the bank holiday arrivals). I've got mixed feelings overall about our first camping trip. I'm not particularly looking forward to the next one but then again it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. The weather definitely made the week a much bigger challenge than it would otherwise have been and I suppose if we've survived a week like this then things can only get better (they can't get much worse weather wise). Not sure we'll get another chance to go this year now and we'd need to invest in a trailer and/or roofbox before our next trip (my parents helped us out with their trailer this time). I would say that an EHU made things a lot easier and I wouldn't like to have been without one! Evenings were very chilly and it was nice to put the heater on which soon warmed the tent up, without that it would have been quite uncomfortable and damp.
Anyway, we survived it and I haven't been put off camping for life so I suppose it was a success. Here's to the next one...
