As the subject reads I thought it was time to level the camping field.
We went with two other families, both new campers, for a long weekend. WEather was dry for putting the tents up and not that bad, grey and cloudy but no rain on Friday. We noticed a lot of peugeot cars parked further up the field and lots of young men and woman in small tents. We presumed it was an owners meet and were correct.
The night went well except for the swimming pools that were constantly being emptied over us all. I've not known the rain to come down like this before and for so long.
Saturday we visited Dovedale during the glorious day and got back to the site just as the skies opened again. The peugeot owners club decided to make their own fun in the rain and the very wet ground by running down the field and jumping on a lilo and sliding the remainder of the field. They were also playing music from one of their cars but not that loud. However their antics and music apparently earned them 15 complaints to the warden. This was at 8:30 in the evening. Someone on the field had complained about a group of people trying to make some good out of the bad weather.
So, I'm actually complaining about the complainers. Come on folks, give people a chance to enjoy their breaks at least they weren't revving engines and ripping up the ground wheelspinning, well no more than the rest of us driving on and off the field.
Yeah I reckon I would be with you on that one at 8.30 at night, 10.30 might be different tale though
Music, I think this comes down to what was being played and at what volume as to whether I would find it annoying or not. We were away earlier in the year and pitched next to a group of middle aged women celebrating a birthday. One of them came across to us and said they might be a bit noisy, but they would all be in bed by 10pm and sure enough they were true to their word on both counts. They were a giggly and talking loudly, and also had some music on fairly quietly. Didn't bother us at all, but others complained and they were asked to turn it off. I made sure they knew it wasn't us who had complained because we hadn't considered it to be a problem.
With regards to the mudsliding, sounds like great fun (as long as no damage was being done to the grass) and if there was an issue with this then surely it should be the owners/wardens that should be sorting it out.
I saw a meet earlier in the year for a hill-sliding weekend in September which looked great fun, but when we enquired about going it we found out it had been cancelled

I couldn't believe they had had complaints so early on in the night. The mud sliding wasn't causing any problems or in fact leaving a track in the grass. The music wasn't particularly loud either and it was a mixture of pop tunes and not some heavy metal or rap. I think playing 'Steps' might have been the problem though.
But what can you do in th epouring rain other than make your own fun and make light of a bad situation?
I'd be with you on this one too. 8.30 in the evening is pretty early. I reckon it would be good fun to sit and watch them! Good for them for making the best of the cr*p weather!
Me too - free on site entertaiment is the way we'd have viewed it - pity they didn't invite you to join in ( I know my children would have wanted to do)
Actually they did approach me and ask if i'd tow them around the field as I had the only car near them that had a tow bar. I had to refuse though as I didn't want to rip up the field. They video'd it all too so i'm waiting to get hold of the youtube link before posting on here.
Personally, I'd complain about music from a car radio whatever the time of day. I don't enjoy being forced to listen to others choice of music, whether that's on a bus, in my back garden or on a camp site.
Having a transistor on quietly so that the music isn't audible from two pitches away is one thing. Turning up the car radio and opening the doors so that the music is broadcast across the field is another and I think it's a pretty anti-social thing to do.
I remember one weekend being constantly bombarded by country and western from the elderly folks in a caravan two pitches away.
It got a bit annoying, but I wouldn't have dreamed of complaining - it was only during the day, why should I spoil their fun? I may be that deaf myself one day.
I think there should be more live and let live on campsites. Good on the Peugeot Owners Club for making the best of it - after all they haven't got a lot going for them in the automobile stakes, have they? Probably used to making the most of a bad job.
