I believe that there was an East German car called Trabant which could have a tent fitted to the roof rack. Don't know if it was any good and could be a bit tricky in the morning if you were dashing off to the loo and forgot you were 5ft off the ground! I know the cars were a bit quirky with a fibreglass body, air cooled two stroke 600cc engine, no petrol gauge and petrol tank in the engine compartment.
