Ah what a shame, I bet you hated to have to cancel your bookings for the weekend.
I phoned you last week to see if we could get in with you either this weekend or next week. We had a fabulous holiday with you last summer and only decided to fit in another camping trip last week.
Lets hope the fields dry up soon, I'm sure it won't put anyone off from coming to you again. We'll certainly be back and book in advance next time!
I was meant to be coming up tomorrow, really dissapointed that we cant, but understand that the weathers been awful, hopefully we can manage a trip next year as it looks a beautiful site.
Had a week on a site in Bala at the end of last month and apart from the first couple of days when the sun shone we had rain every day .
Fforest Fields was actually on our shortlist for a few days away next week but we opted for another site. Only booked yesterday and there was no mention of being rained off. Mind you, if the weather websites are to be believed there is high pressure coming across the country next week so we might get some decent (dry?) days .
------------- Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
we have been to Fforest a couple of times....the last time was in August...year before last or so I think and it was terribly wet. Although we had booked for several days we could stand the mire no longer and you kindly refunded the days we did not stay. I think its very noble of you to phone booked campers and cancel. I can understand in some ways why some sites are still keeping deposits...after all the weather is kind of nobodys fault and people still have livlihoods to make. However, if the ground/site is not ' fit for purpose ' then the only decent thing to do is what you have you done and you should be commended upon it. ( we had a right tussle with a site in dorset last year to get some money refunded on a site that was knee deep in mud....yes the site owner dumped straw outside the tents, but really the land couldn't cope with being advertised as a campsite in anything other than dry weather )
I would think that far from putting people off this sort of attitude will keep campers and so whenever the ground dries out you will be able to fill all pitches.
Its supposed to get better next week ( as from wednesday I have heard it rumoured ) so I reckon you'll be inundated with calls.
Have you considered a few log cabins dotted around the site?....not that I would want to assist in the demise of Fforest F as a campsite, but the place is a little goldmine ( esp with your customer service ! )...this would help with bringing in earnings throughout the fickle british summer !
Oh! It's sod's blinking law! The sun is shining today and the forecast is not too bad......but the ground is wringing wet still and I know it was the right thing to do. Thank you Genie and everyone, for such kind words, much thought is going into the future and how we can continue to cater for as many of our visitors requests as possible. There is a very useful thread about sand and well drained pitches, which is something that we have been thinking about for a while. We will stay a caravan and camping site, without a doubt, we find that it brings the best mix of people but there will be some re-organisation for sure (to quote Rossi!) And thankfully, as we don't ask for deposits, I don't have to return any, so it's not money lost it's just not money gained
Enough, off to work....and to welcome everyone who is coming today!
Just got back from FF today and i must say the rain came down over the weekend along with some rather scary wind. it was a shame to see so many pitches empty but you could clearly see that there was no way they could have been let, ive seen some rain fall there over the last few months and it now has no where to run. i have never seen water gather on the pitches like it had this weekend, but im sure as long as there is some dry weather it will quickly dry out and drain away, its just so saturated there.

I'm so impressed that a site owner would bother to ring and cancel people and then to message on here too. Well done Katie, and also Jakers. Your attitude is a massive selling point to me and I'm sure loads of others too. There aren't enough around like you!!
We will visit-I particularly like the water park idea!!

We came back from FF on Friday, after two weeks of pretty constant rain, and the whole family has voted to go back as soon as possible. Even with the rain (and the moat around our tent) we had a wonderful holiday. It was the first time we had been to the site, and we could not have been more impressed, it has gone straight to the top of our top 10.
