A popular subject I'm sure

Had to laugh when we were away - went away for the day and on our return found that we had new neighbours. Not a problem of course, but they pitched so close and wedged in right near the front gate - there were two tents in their wee group. Thing was the entire field was nearly empty and there was loads of space everywhere else!  Why do people do that!

I think too if you set your bleedin' tent alight I'll be mighty peed off if you take mine with you

Apart from the fact I don't want to hear them fart and snore and don't want them to hear me fart and mutter either!

Its not like we had the best pitch either, we had to go at the bottom end of the field as it was busy when we arrived.

They did turn out to be not awful neighbours despite their proximity, I thought it was a bad omen when I got out the car and said hello cheerfully only to be greeting with a grumpy grunt and look by the woman as they were tackling pitching their tent for the first time. Lots of bickering and mean words as they got through it together - got there in the end - but thankfully they turned out to be a couple and one pair of in-laws who laughed a lot and were warm and friendly to one another!

A mate of mine (who used to camp but now has a static) had a great method of keeping "neighbours" at a distance. After erecting the tent, he used to hang a laminated sign outside the door with the words "Come in peace or leave in pieces".

Needless to say, he invariably had plenty of pitch space to spread out on.

we had an interesting *neighbours* expereince this year.

We were sat outside our tent enjoying a beer and the warmth of the embers of the BBQ. When the Dad from the tent next door obviously was sitting his young child down (4 or 5) inside the tent to break the news that when they got back that he wouldn't be living with them anymore and that he didn't love Mummy any more.

DH and I beat a swift retreat back into our tent as we *really* didn't want to be evesdropping on that sort of conversation, a shame as we didn't get many nice evenings for sitting out!

Oh dear. Mind you, it was probably his only chance to let the chils know and gave him a bit of time with the child which sadly many dads don't get once partners split.

Our closest neighbours this year turned out to be from just up the road to where we live. Good job we did not have words!

The site we were on recently insisted that you pitch the tent to the left, have 'garden' space in the middle and car on the right. Pitches were all clearly marked, but it meant the tents weren't on top of each other. The pitches were 15mx12m too, which helped. As far as I know, the should be 6m minimum between tents by law.

Our neighbours for the first week turned out to be quite local to us too. Funny how that seems to happen.

It varies depending upon local authority planning regulations, usually between three and six metres but occasionally less.

I hate those sort of in your face inconsiderate morons, it's a kind of bullying. not only unsafe, but puts a dampener on your own bit of free space.

One of our fairly early camping experiences we arrived at this site and were told to plug into the EHU point next to the only other tent in the field.  Should have asked to be a bit further away, but didnt as newish campers.  I bet the peeps in the other tent thought it was down to us to choose.  Seems a bit of a shame as during our stay there only one other caravan arrived and they were a bit away.

we had an odd neighbour on a site in Belgium a few weeks ago......

He was camping solo and was struggling to pitch a small tent so we helped.. sorted.

We noticed that the HH on his tent was only 850 and it had been raining.

The following morning he said his tent leaked badly and was popping home to get a bigger tent.

He returned later with a larger cheapo tent and got on with pitching it.

A while later, we returned from the supermarket and found him waiting for us.

The cheeky git asked us if we could take the weathermaster windbreak down so he could peg his last few guylines !

We told him sorry but no, it is attached to the tent.

If we were taking his pitch then that would be different but for some reason unknown to mankind, he decided to throw the fly on the floor and pitch it right there without considering where the guys would go.

And he had tons of space on the other side for crying out loud

Who sang "People are strange"? They got that right lol
