I must admit I don't tend to complain when we suffer the occasional rowdy lot but I would never visit the campsite again, ever.

I have just logged on now to rant about this very point myself, like you, we were surrounded by three groups who were obviously together and thought this gave them a license to be as loud as they wanted until as late as they pleased. Two of the families were headed by the 'Mitchell' brother wannabe's, the family we were with did ask them to be quiet on one occasion as they have a 9 month old baby, but were met with eyeballing the following day, and even more noise that night. It is not the norm, the rest of the camp was quiet after 11 but we somehow got lumbered next to these rude and selfish idiots who thought they were exempt from any noise restrictions. Funny thing was, at one point our friends over heard them talking about being kicked off another site previously..................... Mmmm wonder why that was. Not much point in complaining though like a previous poster said, how uncomfortable would that be!

i would agree except sometimes you engage with people and then it turns out they don't share your ethos after all but they don't think you'll mind because you engaged with them

WHICH SITE WAS IT, HAVE YOU LEFT THEM A BAD REVIEW, IF NOT WHY NOT. WORRIED ABOUT YOUR GEAR, WE GET INSURANCE FOR OUR TENT AND ACCESSORIES AND EQUIPMENT . THINK ITS ABOUT £500 FOR EACH CATEGORY SO ABOUT £1500 COVER AND IT COSTS US £54 A YEAR, SO YOUR STUFFS COVERED.

I WOULD FIRSTLY MENTION IT TOO SITE, THEN TO THEM, IF NO JOY REVENGE IS SWEET. BUT THATS JUST ME, MITCHELL BROS OR NOT.   NAME AND SHAME THE SITE!!!

Now that is definately a good idea..Insurance. Now that would go a long way to reasure people. Anyone suggest a good insurance company for camping equipment. £54 seems reasonable.

Thanks for that.

Our neighbours returned at 2.39 am on Saturday night, their car is parked just to the side of our caravan and they proceeded to slam the doors and talk to each other!

OH was not impressed having been awake most of the night due to torrential rain and high winds hammering into the van.

People are inconsiderate but I suppose we shouldn't be surprised as that seems to be how people conduct their lives these days.

We stayed in Kennoxstone on the gower this weekend, last minute as the place we booked canceled at the last minute due to flooding.
Amazing site, but you cant choose your neighbours.
We pitched in a nice open space leaving plenty of room for manouvering cars, then the first of the offenders turns up.
Brand spanking new Land Rover discovery, new trailer and still packaged tent.
They were so close to us that the guy ropes nearly got tangled, their phones were ringing constantly as the friends who they where coming with were lost.
The next family finally turn up, the guy parks his car next to my bedroom of the tent.
The last family turned up at half ten and proceeded to make as much noise as humanly possible putting the tent up.
They then proceeded to party it up until half 12 until the warden came around and asked them politely to be quiet.
Next day i took the family out for lunch and when we came back the knob had put his trailer in my parking space.
Luckily for us two tents had left that afternoon so we upped and moved, with others following.
I mentioned it to the owners, stating that i would rather move pitches than complain but he said i did the right thing in telling him and that he would have a word.
Needless to say the camp was silent at 11pm sharp, as it should be in a family field, if you want to stay up getting p*ssed and laughing till the small hours then go in the rowdy fields with the teenagers.
Rant over....

Rant over....

a good rant helps!

My negative experience recently has clouded my memories of an otherwise suberb holiday and i can only sing the praises of the campsite the owner and the staff.

despite my cynicism in an earlier post i do think that engaging with fellow campers does help, in more ways than one.

We thought our peace might be shattered with the arrival of a couple of families with excitable doggies. I am not keen on doggies and the owners were quite excitable too.  We got chatting and it turned out that one reason they had come to the site was reading my review on here .

At one point a fellow camper shouted out some rude words about the doggies which were echoed by my husband  .. but i didn't mind the doggies at all .

Hiya,

Only had one experience of camping so far so this is a specific not a generalisation. The camp we went on was very family orientated with spatious pitches and although for the majority of the week we were next to a "group" we never heard them and they were always polite and friendly. Our toddler probably irritated them more that they did us shouting about the rabbits.

On the last 2 days of our holiday a whole tent colony moved in behind us and on the first night they were noisy but stopped at a reasonable hour. On the second night they were there (happily our last) their teenagers were hanging out nearby and screaming so loud until gone 11. When they were chatting I didn't really mind but their chatting was frequently punctuated by this horrible screaming and yelling. My tot didn't wake up fortunatley, and I think if he had or shown signs of being disturbed I would have said something but I would not have welcomed the task and would have not been hopeful of it having any effect.

Some people are just plain ignorant, rude and selfish imo, but I dont think this is restricted to campsites ;).

I wonder if campsites keep a record of nuisance families that they have been complained about and make sure they can never book again on their site.

Campsite owners i feel that rather than just accepting people`s money as they come in that you also drum into people what the site rules are and make it clear if they are not kept that you will be asked to leave. And is it really a good idea to put huge groups together?? Any Thoughts?

I understand what you are saying pennypip but I think not letting people camp in groups would spoil it for those who can behave themselves. When we went to Orchard a few weeks ago, we went with 3 other families and had a great time, but I'd like to think we did it without affecting anyone else negatively. Most of the time we go away with at least one other family, and whilst it's nice to go away on our own too, for us camping is also about spending time with friends.

Inconsiderate campers can be obnoxious in smaller numbers too, I think they're just more intimidating in a group!

As I site owner I find the lack of respect for other folks completely unacceptable but unfortunately on the increase, we 'try' and deal as tactfully as possible with disruptive campers/caravanners - if we are told.  Many customers - will not tell until it's too late and the disruption has either leftt he site or they themselves are leaving.

We ask all our customers to read the rules it's part of the conditions of booking and where possible we enforce them - I say 'where possible' as on many many many occasions people still flout the rules.  My biggest bug bear we have large signs saying "children must be supervised by an adult" are they ? Nope.

We enforce our quiet by 11pm rule easily as we walk our rather large gsd round the site - soon quietens folks down!

Liz

PS: yes we also keep a record of nusiance customers - we call it the 'hit list' if they have caused problems of whatever magnitude they simply don't get back in!

If you can't beat em, join em, so we did! And then we sold it for a holiday let & Glamping pod instead 😁

Well you get my vote and possibly the next booking! Excellent an owner who cares. Incidentally i have worked around your part of the world for three years 2002 - 2005 for a well known television company what a lovely area and well worth a holiday there.
