Hi there,

When putting our tent up last time out, we noticed that one of the flexi pole segments had split. Luckilly, we were able to pitch the tent as it was one of the bedroom poles and it had split right the way through.

We have a spare piece, but before embarking on repairing it, I thought that I would come to the 'font' of knowledge on UKCS and ask for a bit of advice on how to do it! I'm sure that it would become clear, once starting the repair, but I would rather attempt the repair with some knowledge as opposed to none!!

Your suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Jo

Firstly buy a repair kit. I comes with a big needle to help you thread the elastic through the poles. the rest is easy

this is probably NOT good advice, but my oh fixed mine with insulation tape, and has promised me it is secure!? maybe as well with a proper repair kit, or even see if you can get a replacement pole from the maufucturers. good luck!

Excuse me !!!!

Duck tape it fine for a temp repair on a pole that's split maybe 1 inch but I think your OH  does not know what he is talking about (no disrespect intended)

Quality and expensive equipment needs to be respected and looked after. Quick fixes (other than in an emergiencies) are not a good ides

my tent poles split in the recent bad winds and no probably not a good idea either but as I had my 2 kids begging me not to go home we taped them up with borrowed gaffer tape so we could stay. They did stay put in very strong winds but I am planning on replacing the split poles now I'm home before we go out again.

Don't ever pitch up with a split pole unless you have bound it up with duck tape first & only do this as a temporary repair in an emergency. They can split even more & leave very sharp splinters which will tear your tent to shreds if the wind gets up.
