We have just purchased our Montana 6 and will be going away for a long weekend 3rd wk in Sept.  Just thinking about where to cook - side porch is too small and I don't want to cook inside the tent.  Should I get a utility tent and pitch it to side porch or will that raise its own set of problems should the weather be typically British? What do other Monty owners do?

I don't have a monty myself but have seen plenty on site, some use the Montana Canopy with windbreaks to cook behind, some have a utility tent by the side of the main tent

We have just bought a Kyham canopied wind break, a new kitchen unit with larder, the plan is to put on the front of the tent it gives us a vented sheltered cooking space and extra space inside, away in Dorset in 2 weeks so will get a chance to try it out. Having just homed a retired greyhound we feel safer with the cooker outside of the tent.

Life is to short to miss out on getting your tent out

We used to have a 'kitchen tent '  and have since changed to an extention /canopy and find it far more practical .No longer do we have to too and from in heavey rain betwix 2 tents carrying plates of food ,or pad outside in the dark to make a cuppa,we just step out the front door and were there :)

We have the SunnCamp day room and pitch it next to our Wynnster Antares 9 so that the entrance to the main tent is inside the day tent. With careful placing of the entrance walls and door we can get quite a good deal between the two.

We love having a great big covered area, it's ideal when the weather's bad as with the sides down on the day tent we have abount 20 feet by 10 all under cover.

The day tent is great for cooking as one wall has a mesh window which we position the cooker next to, giving adequate ventilation.

I can remember when this was all fields.

I would have thought that using canopy with windbreak(s) was safer.

Aw thanks for looking but we thought that the extension would be a more convenient option with a windbreak to the front.  I read the reviews on here and thought it seemed like a good if a bit pricey buy.  I was worried that although our Monty could weather the storms my utility tent could be another matter!

Can I just tag on the end here and ask...Do you have to pay extra to pitch a utility tent? I only ask as gazebos/pup tents tent to be charged extra for but I'd love some protection from the elements when im cooking.

Well we havent had to pay extra .......yet (take a look at our gallery for our set up) but im sure some sites do charge extra for a gazebo or utilty tent. Forest holidays for example do ask you online when booking if you have a gazebo, we said no and didnt have to pay. The site also didnt bother us when we got there, however we noticed when leaving the site they had put up a sign saying no more gazebos or utility tents unless pre paid!
