Hi everyone
I've come to camping rather late in life (56 eek!) and in a round about way - our local Freecycle has a lot to answer for - my 11 year old son Ben wanted to camp in the garden so when I saw an old tent going for grabs on Freecycle I got it. Pitched it OK considering I hadn't done anything like it since the days of girl guides and bell tents and there were no instructions but by the time it was dark, Ben was begging me to join him and I was cursing freecycle and my madness! Well, not only did it rain but we had a horrendous thunderstorm but, I'm pleased to say, the tent withstood this but it was nice to get back in the house the next morning.
Guess what? Yes, he pestered the life out of me until I finally agreed in a weak moment to take him 'proper' camping so 2 weeks ago we set off for 3 nights with the tent, airbed, sleeping bags and a tiny ancient campingaz stove. I couldn't believe what fun we had (mind you I did play the martyr for quite a while .
I think I've got the bug now - I've just spent most of the bank holiday weekend researching tents on here and other sites and have just bought a new one - beyond my original budget but oh well - just a bit scared now in case I've not chosen wisely. I went for an Outwell Oregon 5 because I wanted a decent amount of space, a reliable make, the option of 2 bedrooms (he wants to take a mate next time) but just hope the 2 of us can manage to put it up!
I'll be on here quite a bit I would think - I've read loads of threads and there is so much info on here it's amazing! I can't wait for the tent to arrive - hoping to get a weekend in before it gets too cold!
