We`ve actually got to the stage where we can pitch the tent and fit it out without talking!!

I preferred it when we argued.

Oh my god, I am the grumpy tent erector!

Now I explain it like this. My day job is as a manager, so I know what needs doing, tell people what to do, it gets done as I say and everyone knows what they are doing.

We have a large tent which cost a lot of money (to us anyway). The most likely time when the tent will be damaged is during pitching and striking.

I know how the tent has to go up and it's important we do it properly so that it stays up and isn't damaged. I will therefore assume a managerial, although hands-on approach, and ask the rest of the family to do what needs to be done. Sometimes when you are holding on to one corner, trying to keep the tent down in the wind, and need someone else to do something with their corner or need something passed, you don't have time to say please or thank you.

Basically I have my work head on when I'm putting up the tent and don't get into holiday mode until it is all up and I have a beer in my hand.

Mrs Stack finds this hard to accept and treats any instruction as a personal slight. She knows what I'm like and I've tried to explain why I am like this.

I feel somehow cleansed by confessing this to you all. Thank you for listening.

+++++ P.S. I've just noticed I've got another little tent to my name ! +++++++++

Stackman,

I would like to congratulate you on 2 accounts, firstly for getting that off your chest and secondly for getting your 2nd little tent! I suppose when i started this thread i should have realised, my husband is also a manager, so i think, like you, thats where he gets it from!

Again, thanks to you all for continuing this thread, very very amusing!

Marriage is all about give and take. You'd better give it to her or she'll take it anyway.

Hi

Oh this thread is so funny and I'm glad its nots just my hubby which I thought it was.  Yep my hubby is exactly the same, he turns into a sargeant major and a Mr Grumpy all in one!  Whatever I do I am wrong-try and help and I'm not doing it right, let him get on with it and  I get 'its no good just b----y standing there can't you see what I'm trying to do!'  Err what give yourself a heart attack cos you're getting so irate!  I absolutely dread putting the tent up and taking it down lol!

Hi all, my OH just read what I have posted about him and has to admit it is correct.  He is a manager too stackman, perhaps that is the problem he has to take control.  Unfortunatley I am self employed and don't take orders very well, maybee that's why it's world war three on the camping pitch. Thing is he's usually very nice to the staff at work, don't think they would take what he says to me without walking out.  I did work with him for a few weeks once and we actually got on really well, made me realise how hard he works and he was great.  No I think it's something primevil, something phycological about being the hunter gatherer and having to provide shelter.  Either that or wanting a cup of tea after a long journey. Regards Maria
