We were booked into Skipsea sands for two nights and I must admit even though Park resorts are converting this site into one of their corporate , one size fits all, it is still a great site.

What! I love this place. Have only stayed in the statics as the noise level seems to be unmonitored and I have enough trouble copiung in a caravan let alone a tent, but the site and facilities are great.

Not sure Park resorts will keep it the same.

If only we had booked Skpsea for the full week we would have been happy campers.

We had a great pitch 10m x 12m with the duck pond behind the pitch, really nice.

Thornwick was very disappointing, even though we knew the weather had been bad over the weekend what we saw was unacceptable.

Flower of may is one of our favorite sites, but this is now 95% statics , seasonal tourers and tourers ,  tents are very much in the minority. We were just disgusted with the attitude of the receptionist, who , having read a few more threads on this site , is not doing this park any good public relation wise..

Try France before you put the tent on Ebay!  Their campsites are second to none in terms of facilities, pitch size, general behaviour and a real feeling that all campers are equal, given that at least 50% of their business comes from Dutch campers in their amazing canvas tents. And the weather is better than the UK, even in the north.

We were are at Thornwick bank holiday Taff, and in my opinion that hill is just not suitable for tents! I really felt sorry for people pitched there, the mud was horrendous and more than once I saw the tractor having to pull cars out! Apart from that I did like the site, apart from some very inconsiderate noisy neighbours!!

I'm a France convert now! I will only get out my Outwell from now on if in france. I will only camp in this country in my quechua's or when rough camping in the mountains.

i think it's important to do your research for each site. Mind you even after i did this you still make mistakes.

Our friends have been trying to talk us into camping in France.

I can see next years pitch prices going through the roof in the UK after this excuse for a summer.

This year's prices went through the roof after last year's excuse for a summer! We went to a site last year where we paid £14 per night for a pitch with ehu for a large tt, 3 adults, 2 dogs and a car. This year the same pitch but with only 2 adults was £22! Heaven knows what it will be next year after this 'summer'!

Hi

I have been going to Flower of May for nigh on thirty years and it has gone from being just about only tents to now seasonal and static caravans and most of the other pitches for tourers.Ten years ago we used to pitch our tent across the road from the wardens caravan now there are very few tent pitches on the main site. The warden that is there now is a waste of time as from her first day there three years ago at easter she had a set to with me over where we wanted to pitch as with Linda and Ken the previous wardens they showed you which pitches were available and you could choose yourself but she insisted we went by the side of the playground but after complaining to the reception we pitched where we wanted to but from that day on she has had it in for us.Never had a trouble with reception but we have not been this year the first time in many as the atmosphere has completely changed.

Skipsea Sands is another site i have visited for years but not been since the takeover so may give it a try as they have some of the best set out pitches i have stayed on.

I would not give it up just for the sake of some rather bad experiences there are still alot of good sites out there just need better weather .

cheers

steve

Don't let it put you off. I think you've just been very unlucky with the sites you've picked.

Despite having diabolical weather last year and this, we managed to enjoy our two main holidays, at Bainbridge Ings (Hawes) and Hayfield CCC site. It was largely due to the kindness and flexible attitude of the owners/staff in both cases, who couldn't have done more for us.

Just in case anyone who's only just starting gets worried, we went to Devon and the people running the site couldn't have been more helpful.  It was wet and muddy but they kept the site immaculate.  The showers, loos and wash basins were always clean - don't know how they did it given the number of people wearing welly boots.

Can I add a plea that people put reviews on the camp site searches whether they had a good or bad experience.  Not only does it help those of us who are going to a new area but it might even raise the standards for those sites which are not so good.

Totally agree, Fiona - it's largely due to reviews on here that we've found sites that were well maintained and run by nice people.

I also think small sites are generally nicer and more easy going and helpful than the big ones.
