I have just been through this all with my tent they don't always make it easy to find the poles you need and yes you will have to cut them to the right size, my friend did mine for me he used a hacksaw and a vice, then he sanded them down to make the end smooth, He did it gently to make sure he didn't break them.
as far as I am aware there are a few different types poles fibre glass, durawrap fibreglass and metal all in different thicknesses for different size tents. so as long as you have the right type of pole and the right thickness of pole cut to lenghth it shouldn't matter who it is manafactured by.
