Oh my days! have just returned early from a weekend trip in the peak district, man the rain! It was honestly like someone had a high pressure hose on the tent for 10 hours straight. Mud like you wouldn't believe, standing water everywhere, flooded roads. My big tent is old and tatty now( like me) so I've retired it and don't think I'll be buying another. Still have three others but only suitable for short stays really. Think I'll stick to that now if this type of weather continues. I'm just getting a bit too old for it all, cleaning everything and drying it all when we get home. Sad to say, but after forty years of all types of camping  I've become a  fair weather camper. My age and this monsoon was the kicker.

We've just returned from a weekend in the Peak District and we only had 2 showers overnight on Saturday! We didn't get there until around 4 on Sat night after umming and ahing ... but we sat outside until gone 730! The ground was a bit muddy but we managed to find a relatively unboggy patch. The sun was out today as we left and the tents are almost perfectly dry! Glad we picked the part of the Peak District that you weren't in moog lol.

i'm not camping this weekend, but we are going to a wedding down in Portsmouth on Friday. They're getting married on the HMS Warrior! I hope it's a lovely day for them and i hope the waters not too rough, as i don't think high heels, a swaying boat  plus lots of alcohol and champagne will mix well....do you? Was thinking of camping if we couldn't get a hotel room, but i think we might have looked a little odd coming out of the tent on Friday afternoon, in our full rig out of dinner suit and gown!! (plus wellies to get in the car, if it's soggy!!)

Hope you have a great weekend Damaged hero, i'm sure the weather will be kind to you! I'd still take my wellies and waterproofs though....just incase!

Not his weekend   but we do have a long weekend planned for Billing Aquadrome on the 19th Sept. Just hope the forcasts are right and the weather will pick up towards the end of the month. The rain does not bother me, its more the wind that causes the most problems, then again as we now have our Delta's we are prepared for anything

Can`t be worse than August can it?

Damaged Hero, i'd check with Kingsbury if i were you, i don't live far from there(erdington)and went past the far end of the park on the M42 today, it was very waterlogged. mind you this is the actual waterpark and not the site, but the proximity would worry me. on the plus side it's a very level site so it could be in a wet but serviceable order.
on a lighter note???i went past a campsite on the A38 just south of Burton on Trent today and the field was a lake with the last two feet of a blue dome tent poking up through the lapping waters!!! i only hope the unfortunate campers got out in time...
p.s. i'm a fellow xbox liver. FLAN uk.

HMS Warrior solid as a rock Grubby, cant imagine it swaying in a hurricane.  What a marvellous setting for a wedding though. PamJ

What an amazing venue for a wedding! I love the Warrior, it's a beautiful ship. It doesn't move about an awful lot and stilettos are not allowed, as I'm sure you know, so you can drink as much as you like!

Thanks superjules and pamj! not wearing high heels, as i end up loosing them. I only have to have a couple of drinks, and the shoes come off and my feet find the dance floor, then when it's time to go, i can't find my shoes again! Have been known to walk home from the local pub with bare feet! I've never been on the ship it's self, but can't wait! It's only a small wedding of 100 people, but it's going to be a posh champagne dinner, with lots of wine to drink!! Can't wait!!

Hope the weather picks up though, if not for the wedding, but for all the people who have camping trips booked this weekend!
