Yes, O'K, -------- We know we are absolutely barmy but have bought a new tent Vango Aspen 700 dlx and are real desperate to try out our new little home from home in September.. Perhaps usually not a problem but we live in South Wales and it just never stops raining -- and we mean raining!!!!

Have been keeping an eye on weather forecasts for the week beginning 8th September but seems no hope of better stuff in our area -------- does anyone out there have any suggestions as to an area in the UK with a little more promise?.

We don't mind being wet but would not relish a foot of mud! --Any suggestions? Is it raining all the time in your area?

Many thanks from 'Living in hope'.

Try Anglesey.  Generally it has more sunshine and less rain than most of Wales although more wind.  Most sites have sheltered pitches.   Holyhead area has some very good sights as does Benllech.

Just had a look at a soil type map of uk and noticed Wales, Devon and Cornwell has a very peaty boggy soil with heavy water holding properties. That i think has been proven this year as most campsites in those areas have had problems. I have not camped in those areas i tend to keep to the Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk area they have sandy and limestone areas that drain well. On our first camp we had 3 hours of thunder storms with very heavy rain and high winds, during the rain the ground was about 1 inch under water and i was not looking forward to packing up thinking the underside would be covered in mud and need cleaning, i was wrong it had drained so well and dried out all i had to do was dust off the dry sandy soil.

I think i am going to look into it a bit more and try to find campsites that are further away for next year.
