Dont give up ! just watch the weather report and go off at short notice , even if its just for the weekend . we have had 2 great weeks away this year believe it or not just by watchin the local weather report and a lot of luck. xxx
on a positive note, we had five trips this year, varying from two nights to three nights, we were rained on once. The sites were all in Scotland! Heck, we even managed to use the outdoor pool on one site!!! Scotland, yes, Scotland!!
But, for now, it's over, were quitting while we are ahead.Until next year. <doffs cap and leaves>

Come down to Norfolk Deb. It's been much drier here than the rest of the country this year
Enclined to agree with you there julz, we camped North Norfolk Bank Holiday week, and on the Sunday were packing up, in bright warm sunshine. When we got back home to Northamptonshire, everyone said they were pitying us with all the rain, as it had thrown it down inland, but we were fine and dry at the coast

I think if you are going to cancel the least you should do is let the campsite owner know. Its bad enough that they are losing out on your money, after all the weather isn't there fault either, but its rude to let them hang around waiting to welcome you if you aren't going to arrive.
Even if you have paid in full up front I think a courtesy call to cancel is in order.
sparky69 not all of us are lucky enough to be able to just go off at short notice - OH works 6 days a week and has to book time off well in advance. We just never seem to pick the right weekends!!!
xtinexoop - I did let campsite owner know, would be very rude not to, would never just not turn up!!!!! I am aware that the weather is not their fault and I never said it was!!! A courtesy call is in order even if you havent paid in full up front aswell! Treat others as you wish to be treated is what Ive always tried to live by!
Bought a new tent a few weeks ago...don't know if we'll get to use to until next year now though!
Just got back from the South West of France earlier this week and the weather there was just amazing. Beautiful sunshine and temps up to 34 C.Makes it soooo hard to come back. Not to mention return to work!!
I am very much a fair weather camper and will be booking for a week or two camping next July/beginningAugust. I find that the best months are definitely June or July...
August is often too hit and miss in the UK these days....don't know if others agree? I've got a choice of camping in August as well but am undecided because of that?
we are new to camping and on our first trip a few weeks ago the weather was horrible. i really did think it would put my wife off going again, same for my sister as she came too with their clan. despite my sisters little tent making it hard work with 3 kids and the constant rain a nd wind we're off again in a couple of weeks. they both loved it and said they just need to prepare for wet weather better with some extra clothing. My sister and brother in law have brought a new bigger tent and none of us can wait. i do hope it's a bit better weather wise but it's just nice to get away really. the wet doesn't bother me really as i'm a cadet instructor and carp angler so i spend nights out in all weathers without the luxuries you get in a tent. keep your chin up it's got to stop raining sometime
We have been lucky this year.
3 Camping trips, one was Keswick and it rained for 9 days, but on out 2 others (another place in The Lakes and Shell Island), I managed to get sunburned.
Ive had 4 great trips this year. I just dont let the weather get me down. Its been a hellish year and im in the middle of a particularly serious health scare - in fact im just out of hospital after a big op, not to mention a rather daunting court case coming up outwith my control. Its not going to stop me, i will continue and so should you!! It might mean some sacrifice, more miles travelled to chase the weather, but the sense of achievment will be great.
enjoy camping.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.

Thanks for your comments guys. You have restored my faith a little. But its just one trip after another picked wrong starts to get you down. Im not necessarily a fair weather camper as I actually quite like the sound of the rain on the canvas its quite relaxing, but camping in a pool of mud, or indeed just a 'pool' and heavy downpours and wind speeds of 30mph+ is not my idea of fun. These seem to be the kind of conditions forecast everytime we have a booking. I just cant believe our bad luck.

I think the weather has been so bad this year that you need to have had very good luck not to have had bad weather most of the time! At least last year the storms and rain were concentrated in the early part of the summer, and then we had good weather.
I'm sure next year will be better - it certainly couldn't be worse!
We have managed about 9 trips this year one of them in a quagmire mind you so considering its been another lousy summer we haven't done too bad i don't suppose but listening to the weather forecast i now think thats it for this year
Just you wait, the next time the sunshines (if ever, of course) you'll think wistfully about days in a meadow, the smell of the steak bbqing & the clink of the wine glasses.....
I`ve got brave and we`ve booked two nights in Kent this weekend......the forecast is good, the site is pretty dry and I`m optimistic it`ll be good...........we`ve been rained on all summer and this is my last weekend off until the end of November....so keep you fingers crossed for us
My fingers (and toes!!) are crossed for you u400jb9!
Irons how do you manage to clean your tent up after being in a quagmire? We have a groundsheet for our hartford but the footprint of this tent is massive and we only have a small garden. Im sure theres been endless amounts of threads on here about how to clean mud of tents. There must be an easy way to do it. Ive tried putting it over the washing line but its way too heavy for it. Our house is built on clay so the back lawn is like a bog at the moment therefore not good to lay it down and spray water over it - each way you turn it, the more mud and clay gets stuck to it. This is only our second season therefore have only had this tent pitched once or twice before (we always take the orchy if its just me and OH) on a good pitch, never pitched it on a mud bath! But you have to be prepared to pitch it on a mud bath these days so need to learn how to deal with it!
