We have just bought an Erde Trailer 122, and I have normal car insurance, then I also have my tent and equiptment insured though the C&CC.  Does anyone know if a trailer is covered by either of these, or is this something that I have to get added on, or not worry about.

Any advice would be great

I always think that insurance is only worth buying if you can't afford to replace what you might lose. The only exception is when it is a legal requirement to do so. If your car insurance covers loss of your trailer then great but otherwise to try and insure your trailer, it's not worth the money against the risk of it being lost.

Hi
What you must do is inform your insurance company that you will be towing a trailer,This will then be added at no cost to you and you will be covered to tow the trailer.

the insurance covers you if your trailer damages someones vehicle, but it will not pay for your trailer.

And in an awful attempt to sell my trailer...see my ad on the free page for fantastic deal!!!

So sorry to force this on your thread however I am poor and need money to help pay for my new van!!!

As for insurance, I did what rex suggested. My fear was being in an accident and the insurance co not covering me because I hadn't informed them I was going to be towing. Better safe than sorry and shouldn't cost any extra.

Thanks I have informed my insurance company, and my trailer will be covered 3rd party whilst travelling if we have an accident, which is good news.  Thanks for all the advice

HI folk,

We have always had our trailers covered for third party for no exrra cost but last year I changed to the Co-operative Insurance Service and our trailer is now covered fully comprehensive up to £5000 when attached to the car, which just covers our trailer tent nicely, Caravans are excluded. This covers Europe as well. I also took the optional Break Down cover and sacked the RAC after 20 years. The reasonably priced cover is Europe wide and again covers vehicle and trailer. I had a quote for an additonal £100 to take car and trailer to Ireland from the Rac two years ago, finally found Axa who only wanted £39 !

I am not advertising for the Co-op but if you are a member you get dividend on the premium as well!

The total for insurance and breakdown cover was less than my previous premium.
