I bought a secondhand Sunncamp grange frame tent, at the beginning of summer, and have used it during this years 'cloudy' summer.

I managed to erect the tent and use it, however I have a few questions that I would appreciate some help with.

Is it necerssary to waterproof these tents? If so whats the best stuff?

How are the inner tents supposed to held up, I toggled them with bits of stick as an improvisation, I'm sure the designers meant it to be different?

Any idea on how the kitchen/toilet/wardrobe extention fits?

Also the wardrobe between the inner tnts, how does that work?

Can creases be got out of the windows?

The spring loaded poles, that get overstretched. Can these be replaced?

How does one get heavy duty pigeon doo off of the roof?

I've noticed that the rubber rings that are in place for the pegs to peg the tent down, are too short! Does one use longer pegs or should I use extender rubber rings, if u get what I mean?

How can I repair a broken zip on an inner tent?

Can the curtain sliding clips be replaced?

Hope you guys can help.

All the best

Hi Dzog.
1/ Canvas tents do not normally require waterproofing until the are quite old, a good wash with warm water and a soft brush will normally remove dust from the weave to allow the canvas to close when wet.

2/Use these clips on the frame and attach with rubber rings
Clip Item   H    rubber inner tent ring Item 1 These also can be bought localy.

3/and 4/ I don't know the tent.

5/These are the strongest springs you can buy Pole Springs PF17 phone for this Item and ask for a fixing tool to fit the springs. These springs are what cabanon use and will out last all other by many years.

6/ I don't know any safe way to remove the creases if you did as soon as you pack it you would have more.

7/ scrape most of it then just wash with water and a soft brush soft brush this will or for very stubborn stains you can use this as directed   Nikwax Tech Wash

Without seeing the rubbers you have on the tent I can not say. but if you have a mud flap all around the tent the tent should not touch the floor, tent rubbers can be bought from any caravan and camping store If you have the D ring replacement eye ring then I recommend you use the Isabella replacement rings.

9/ Zips are normally replaced by a professional your local camping store will have someone.

10/Yes you can buy packs of replacement curtain clip hooks off the net or from your local caravan and camping store the easiest way to sow them on is to burn a couple of holes with a needle and sow them on like a button.
all the best
Rex.

Hi Dzog

Gosh - so many questions.

We've had a Grange for about 12 years (see my gallery). We haven't used it since we bought an Outwell Norfolk Lake but we just can't bear to get rid of it.

You shouldn't need to re-proof it totally, but we have found that areas such as doors need to be done every 4 years or so - especially if there are little fingers around.  I've always used Fabrisil but there are other similar products.

The inner tents clip onto the same metal clips that hold the Ceiling in place.

The wardrobe also uses these clips at the top, ties to the poles down the sides and pegs in the ground along the bottom.

The wardrobe between the bedrooms is a bit of a joke!  It just looks better than a gap.

I don't know how to get creases out of windows, but I recommend that each time you pack the tent away try to get the creases in a different place otherwise they can split.

You can buy pole springs in any camping shop.  The old ones pull out with a pair of pliers - pull hard!

Cotton is best cleaned with a soft brush, or distilled water and a soft cloth.  Do not use soap or detergent.

The rubbers should reach the ground with a bit of a stretch.  If they don't then you should make the poles shorter by pushing them into the next stop.

Unless you are good at sewing get zips replaced professionally.

The curtain clips break eventually.  I got a whole new strip direct from Sunncamp.

I hope this answers your questions in a way you can understand what I'm going on about.  Enjoy your Grange - it's a great tent.

Hi Dzog & welcome to the forum

If you feel like replacing the zip yourself, I bought inner tent zips from here . They can supply 'continuous' zip by the metre, and you'll need the 6mm one for inner tents.

We bought a tent with creased windows. All I did was to make sure that I laid them out as flat as possible each time we packed the tent away, and they are far less creased now. The best way to fold your tent for ease of pitching next time out, is to lay the inside of the roof on the ground, then fold the sides in starting with the window sections which you should lay flat, fold the plain canvas of the bedroom side in last. Put the tent bag on the ground & fold tent sideways, so that it is the right size for length of the bag, then roll it starting at the bedroom end (so the bit that rolls up the tightest is the plain canvas).

The next time you camp, you can just lift the canvas with the inside of the roof onto the poles, and then just pull the sides down, and they'll drop into place straight away.
