Hi

We are returning to camping after some years, and are looking for some advice please.

On booking, when a site asks for tent size, is that the footprint size of the tent or does it need to be the  measurement including the guys ? - if inc guys how much do you allow for them ?

We have an Outwell Georgia XL, so any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance

Hi ladyj
The size the site requires is the measurement of the widest
part of the tent and the longest part of the tent and not the Square footage
Regards
Rex.

Admittedly I have only camped a few times but have never been asked the size of my tent!

I can only assume that they take one look at my diminutive size and realise I am not gonna put up a ruddy great 10 manner!

Will be interested to see if that changes next year when I plan to get a second, larger tent for longer hols.

Hi Ladyj

Welcome to the Georgia XL club (it's not as big as the Monty gang).

I have to admit that just recently we were asked to get our tent and car into a space that was really far too small, if we had smaller sized tent it would have been fine, however, luckily the people next to us didn't mind sharing their parking space.

We learnt the lesson to perhaps ask the pitch size when booking instead of just presuming that car and tent will fit into one pitch.

I think there are 3 of us in the Amazon 800 club now.

Now I thought the Amazon8 was 6 m long with porch, but the CC club guy paced ours out at closer to 8m, but 5 m width (which I'm sure is under sized...). Anyhow - we agreed it was within the pitch limit, but was told I'd have issues at a club site in the summer. Any ideas why?

I must measure the non-guy footprint next time we pitch it.

I think it's just a case of asking when booking. You just need to check that the space allocated to you does not include car parking room. There are quite a few tents as big as ours and some I have seen that are much bigger, so you shouldn't have a problem.

The C&C Club Clearly states that the maximum size for the unit is 9m X 5 meters The unit size is what ever the max length and width is, and this includes canopy's but not guy ropes it also includes pup tents that are used to sleep in. kitchen tents and cars are not included but must be three meters away from the next unit,in other words if it fits on your pitch it is accepable within the C&C Club rules. some managers seem to think they can make up their own rules.
Some of the recently acquired sites that the club now own and a few that they have had for many years some pitches are two small to accept units that are within the club rules re the post in the past about bringing the site pitches up to date before they spend our money acquiring more new sites with undersized pitches. What you was told was incorrect if the C&C Club as a pitch vacant it should be given to you, if your unit is within the clubs rules regardless of the fact that on the clubs unmarked pitches they can get more smaller tents sited within the six meter rule. but always phone the C&C Club site manager, to make sure they have a pitch and if they say your tent is too big ask why and then report them to head office if their answer is not correct within the clubs rules.
Rex.
