we are a family of 2 adults 2 children, this year we have used a Gelert Utah. I have now only last week took delivery of a Montana 6, which is a great size and i know it fits on the pitches of our favorite site, but how about families with more children, larger families? It sounds to me like large families who have say 4+ children so will need a 8 birth + tent, will be penalised by sites who don't accept the larger tents ?????
------------- KIM.
2013 Season.
Upgraded from a TT to a caravan.
Loving it!
Roll on summer :-)
i just booked a few nights during half term at spiers house in north yorkshire with our new hartford xl which comes in at 7m*7.55m not sure how that compares to some of the other biggies mentioned here.
the nice lady on the phone told me if the tent was bigger than 8m i would have to book 2 pitches - she didnt say if it would be twice the price though.
long range weather forcast isnt too promising so site may well be almost empty anyway.. certainly dont expect it to be too busy, from a business point of view i have to ask do the owners of certain sites want a single pitch fee for a large tent, or nothing?

sorry i used that quote above but forgot to write a comment.
What I meant to say is that the whole issue of what a campsite actually charges you for is a real problem. We are a family of 5 (3 kids, 2 adults) and we always camp with our friends who are 2 adults. We have similar size tents, monty 6 and sunvalley 6, and sometimes get chtrged per pitch, sometimes by size of tent and sometimes per person. By pitch suits us with lots of kids, but disadvantages our friends but by person puts us at the disadvantage. Although with 5 of us we will always use the toilet/wash facilities more than the couple, not to mention water. I just can't figure out a fair way of doing it. I know that often the caravans get bigger pitches and appear to have more leniant rules on car parking, but I always assumed they were paying more for their pitches. Is this not true?
I dont know if caravan pitches are more expensive or not, what i aim to do is try and post on here ANY sites that will accept large tents in the coming weeks and months, i also urge other to do likewise.

Salome, that is aready available on this website here Sites accepting large tents It is a sticky on the UK Caravan and Campsite forum
Many thanks KatieB but the post is pushing on a bit and i gather one or two of them have changed their rules as tents have evolved, it needs a refresher.
Just out of curiosity, if we have to pay for two pitches at some sites because of our tent size, do we actually get "two pitches"?....or do we get a little extra floor space?
